AM- woke up at 3 when husb woke up and took about an hour to get back to sleep. Woke up and got up finally at 6am (PST) when my white noise stopped. Outside it’s warm, at 37 (F)degrees feels like 32, and we are expecting freezing rain today, ugh🙄

I was just reading today how noise, including white noise, overstimulates the auditory cortex and can cause all sorts of physical problems, including high blood pressure. Why do you use white noise?

That’s interesting… I have used it for over 20 years. I had such bad sleep issues before I started using it. I use it because otherwise I hear literally everything, both externally and internally to myself. From a creak in the floor in another part of the house, to my own heartbeat, and it *all* keeps me from sleeping. Thankfully, my blood pressure is super low, so…yay…?😏. It’s only with the recent Boo issues that I’ve had more trouble sleeping. But this is minor compared to my youth and early adulthood. Many anxiety/depression issues caused disordered sleeping. I also have a hyper alert startle reflex, so if the ambient noise is not consistent, I am constantly jolted awake. White noise has improved my sleep by…many levels of magnitude😎

AM- awakened by Canoe at 1:30am to go outside. Apparently, he had just been there, says husb, but things were urgent, so out he went. He was out for 20 mins😵‍💫Took me an hour to get back to sleep. Finally got up for the morning about 6ish. Outside it is clear, 20 (F)degrees feels like 11 with an East wind🌬️😶‍🌫️

I just got caught up on your thread... I'm so sorry about your loss of Boo. I've loved reading about him the past few years, and I'm glad to hear that he passed with both you and your husband there with him. Sending you lots of love and hugs as you grieve and remember him.

Thanks for sharing photos of your quilts - they are beautiful, and all the more impressive for being done completely by hand!

That’s interesting… I have used it for over 20 years. I had such bad sleep issues before I started using it. I use it because otherwise I hear literally everything, both externally and internally to myself. From a creak in the floor in another part of the house, to my own heartbeat, and it *all* keeps me from sleeping. Thankfully, my blood pressure is super low, so…yay…?😏. I also use white noise. If I don't, hear "things" that keep me awake. I think someone/something is in the house. I have been a shitty sleeper since I was a kid.

AM- Canoe woke us both up again around 1:30am, first husb let him outside, then he woke me up to go out again, before husb was even back to bed. Something is bugging him in the night. Dunno if it’s his stomach, his grief, an intrusive fox or wtf….🤔This morning, I got up just before 7am (PST) to 34 (F)degrees feels like 28, with snow or freezing rain in the forecast. It never happened yesterday, so maybe it won’t today, either!🤞🏼

AM- woke up at 1:30am when Canoe woke up husb to go outside. This time, when he came back in and poked his cold nose at me, I petted him and told him to go back to bed and he did. Husb says he let Canoe take the time he needed outside this time, rather than pulling him in after 10 mins. Then when I woke up for the morning, it was 6:30am (PST) when my white noise stopped. Outside is cloudy, rainy, 35 (F)degrees feels like 32….💦💦

AM- woke up after 6am (PST) to rain, and 36 (F)degrees, ugh💦💦. Husb did not sleep🫣🙄. Yesterday, I read an article NPR about 2 different kinds of “time” that people operate by: event-time and clock-time. A person can operate by either depending on the situation. Or, they can operate predominantly by one or the other. Husb definitely operates by event-time wrt sleep. I definitely operate by clock-time for sleep. Interesting stuff that makes sense and reduces my stress about how “off” we are in that area.🤔

Dorothy, I am just reading now about Boo's passing. I am so very sorry for your loss. I am glad you were all able to be there with him at the end. (I shared your same fear when Trudy was in her final days. I was so grateful to be with her at the end and could not have born it otherwise.) It is such a hard thing to say goodbye. But I know Boo provided you with much love during your years together and that you and your husband gave him a wonderful life.

AM- woke up at 6:30am (PST) when my white noise stopped. Canoe woke us both up in the night again. Feels like he was rounding us up so we would all be together. I know he can tell husb is leaving for Mom’s today, and that makes him anxious.

Outside is super foggy, and 33 (F) degrees….

AM- slept all night except for Canoe pawing at the bedside around 1:30am. I petted him and invited him up onto the bed. He came up, settled right down and slept. He got down to his own bed around 3, I think. We got up at 7am (PST) to heavy fog and 32 (F)degrees.

AM- woke up after 6am (PST). No nighttime wake-ups by Canoe, yay! He pawed at the bed once, I think, on husb’s side. I couldn’t reach him to pet, so told him to go back to bed, or come up. He went back to bed. I think he’s just checking in, like Boo used to do. Husb interprets that as need to go outside. I do not, unless petting doesn’t work or the pawing persists enough to really wake me up. Then, I know it’s urgent🫣

Outside today is cloudy, 32 (F)degrees feels like 26, with some kind of freezing precip in the forecast

He’s very popular with the ladies!😂. The two youngest ones got into a squabble, and I thought it was due to him. But, then the fem boxer’s person says she tends to pick fights. My Penny used to do that too. Couldn’t take her anywhere where other female dawgs might “threaten” her alpha-ness🙄😤

AM- woke up at 6 am (PST) when white noise stopped after 8 hours of sleep. Canoe had pawed at the bed one time and I told him to go back to bed or go to his crate. He went back to bed. Trying to train husb to do that, also, rather than automatically assume doggo needs to go outside. A young but grown dawg should be able to hold his bladder all night🙄He just got into a habit with Boo and kept it up😤

AM- woke up at 5am feeling anxious and wide awake. Tried to stay in bed and go back to sleep but gave up and GOT up at 5:30am (PST). Outside is cloudy and 44 (F)degrees. Have to try the car this morning before my daughter is due to be in her class, so if it needs a jump she can drive her dad’s car to the hotel to do that. Then I would need to go get a new battery. I’m hoping & crossing fingers that it was a fluke, and some map light was left on that I was unaware of, and drained it yesterday, so today it’ll start right up🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

Well, of course it was dead as a door nail, so I spent the rest of the morning dealing with that. Ended up springing for a new battery installation as well as tests for alternator and starter jus to be sure the system is good. Now, it runs smooth AND starts easily….🥳

  • Roller skating: x2 hours✅ with granddaughter at Oaks Park rink…this was a place I had regularly taken my daughter to when she was growing up, sometimes with a friend, mostly just me and her. I have fond memories. I haven’t been on skates in decades. I felt super tired after an hour, and there were tons of little kids falling constantly around me. So, I opted *off* the rink for my own safety. Pushing it with too much fatigue can lead to a fall and a broken wrist in a “mature” woman like myself, which I seriously do not need. I let my granddaughter skate for the second hour and I watched🥰

AM- woke up at close to 5:30am (PST), having hit the hay at 9pm last night from so much fatigue and anxiety early in the day. Outside it is clear, 31 (F)degrees feels like 20. For Portland, that is ridiculously cold. Roads are slick says my weather app😖Hopefully, the bus ride to meet my husb today won’t be adversely affected!🤞🏼

Left daughter’s car at her condo, Ubered to the Greyhound station, rode the bus to TrCities, (sunny and cold the whole way) where husb and Canoe came to fetch me home😎🥳Arrived home in mid afternoon, so husb and Canoe napped and I decompressed, unpacked, had tea and did crosswords.
