Minimal training today because my mind is elsewhere.
This afternoon we have to go to my wife's father's wedding. He's marrying the lover he cheated on my wife's mother with, and he asked my wife to be his best man.
No, this is not the plot of a B-movie comedy...
You can imagine how happy we were at having to spend too much time among vain and opportunistic people.

We survived and it wasn't even that bad, much better than I was prepared for, maybe because we laughed a lot...
Now for some juicy gossip.
The wedding started late, with the bridesmaid's maid of honor missing, the bride's daughter, who was stuck in traffic with the rings.
The groom's smartphone rang twice during the ceremony.
The first time it was a spam call.
The second, the good one, was the mechanic who advised that he could go and collect the car.
The car in question was owned, drum roll and twist: the bride's daughter and bridesmaid.
My wife and I joined the groom's relatives, who ranged in age from 83 to 92 and had no social filters, saying whatever came into their heads to anyone who came within earshot and even from a distance since they were deaf and spoke loudly.
At dinner we sat at the table with them and we were by far the most cheerful and talkative table.

Wow, what a mess, seriously! Glad you took it with humor.
Did I mention that at the end of the wedding the bride really wanted to give a speech with quotes she didn't quite remember?
We could only laugh about it.

There's only two words I need to shout after reading all of that: Mano, ¡¿qué?!

Okay, now that the Venezuelan barrio in me is out, what the actual eff?! That is such a hilarious train wreck...
Given the emotional tension, especially for my wife, that accompanied the entire preparation and the event itself, looking at the ridiculous side of the whole affair saved and heartened us a little. :)

How exciting, I came here to see a workout log and got wedding gossip as a bonus!

Sounds like you got quite a bit done! I tried tai chi once (I know, probably not the same as wu qin xi but similar movements from what I could see in the video) and it really improved my day! Have you found it helpful? How difficult do you find doing it without a group/instructor?

I only took a one-day course, morning and afternoon, to learn the entire sequence, and then continued practicing on my own. I watch the video every now and then to make sure I'm not messing up too much, but I think it's possible to learn it just from the instructional video.
It's part of what I consider to be minimal wellness pills, along with the sun salutation. :)

I got back yesterday afternoon.
From a work perspective, the trip went well; I finally closed a deal that had been struggling for six months.
From a personal point of view, it didn't go so well because I had a fight with my father, not that it's anything new, we haven't gotten along since I was born.
The new thing is that I stuck to my guns, which really unsettled him.
I'm happy, he's not; it's not hard to figure out who's understood more about life.
I feel sorry for my mother, who I get along with very well and who lives with my father, but I can't do anything about it except remind her that she has another choice and that we would gladly welcome her.
The older I get, the less inclined I am to waste time and energy on lost causes. It's sad, but there are wars you can't win, and perhaps they aren't even yours to fight.
I'll give myself a few more days to refocus, but starting Monday, things will change. I've been in survival mode for too long lately due to stress and emotional overload. Now, I'm taking back control of my life, by hook or by crook. :)

There are three phases in a father-son relationship.
When the son is a kid, he says: "My dad is a superhero. He’s the best at everything."
When the son grows up, he says: "My dad’s a fool. He doesn’t know anything."
And when the son has his own child, or when his father passes away, he says: "Damn, my dad was right."
I’ve been through all those phases, and I can say it’s pretty accurate.

Last night's Muay Thai training was decidedly intense, with running, strength circuits, and striking techniques, all with very few breaks to catch my breath.
But I held up well to the training and this morning I was sore but not in pain and in fact I went to the gym for the scheduled workout so I'm very happy with the results of the training done so far, it paid off. :)

The new toy arrived, surprisingly without tracking. I was expecting a 3kg package, and an 18kg one arrived. :P
I had a hard time carrying it up the stairs.
I had to get my wife to help me unwrap it.
I love it.

P.S. It's much heavier to handle than its 16kg weight suggests. :P

I successfully completed the first week of my new gym workout and I managed to do it despite both grueling Muay Thai workouts, so that's good. :)
The start of last night's workout:
Set 1
10 fast squats with an empty barbell (20kg)
15 push-ups
40 kettlebell swings (weight of your choice, for me 16kg)
400-meter run
Set 2
10 fast squats with an empty barbell (20kg)
15 push-ups
30 kettlebell swings (16kg)
400-meter run
Set 3
10 fast squats with an empty barbell (20kg)
15 push-ups
20 kettlebell swings (16kg)
400-meter run
Set 4
10 fast squats with an empty barbell (20kg)
15 push-ups
10 kettlebell swings (16kg)
200-meter run
No rest, I endured to the end and then died in peace... :P
This was to warm us up, then the real training began.

Today I feel physically fine, some soreness but no particular pain, so I opted for a light active recovery workout, which I think is more beneficial than complete rest, i.e. doing nothing. :P
Summing up the recent results in no particular order: my shoulders are doing well, as is my back; in fact, it seems to be improving despite the intense training, so I'll continue with my daily routine of warming up, mobility, and stretching. They take time, but they pay off in my health. Training three times in the gym during the Muay Thai season is possible, but the training load needs to be carefully calibrated. I need to experiment and see what really works. Doing shorter workouts is definitely essential.
I still have to lose 3kg but that doesn't worry me, now I'll use the heavy clubbell workout to do an extra daily workout, so I can have fun and burn extra calories.

Is the 3 kg weight loss to try and fit into a lower weight class for Muay Thai competitions? There's a guy at my work who does that for weight lifting, sounds very challenging!
No no, nothing like that, it's just that my ideal weight is around 64 kg and I look good there (I'm 1.65 m tall) and I feel those extra kg. :)
