Cardio without knees?

With my knee injury I can't do anything that involves twisting the core, so punches are out.
I don't have access to a pool at the moment.

Any workouts or exercises that come to mind that could get the blood pumping without the legs?
At the moment, all I've got are arm circles and general flailing. Something to mix it up would be amazing.

All suggestions are appreciated!

I think this might be a good fit. Seated Cardio. It's cardio exercises that focuses on the upper body. Since you can do it sitting down, that should help with not twisting your core much.

Ooof, I feel you on the knee injury! Tore my ACL a while ago, had surgery, and made a full recovery. Since then I've danced, earned a black belt in Haidong Gumdo (Korean sword martial art), and done a lot of stage combat. I have to make sure I fully extend to straight and bend all the way to keep range of motion every day.

You can do punches as long as you don't do the back leg twist. Consider the squat hold position, and if you can't bend your knee yet, go as far as you can, or straight leg it if you have to. Do the punches. Try to make the punches hit the same imaginary target every time. Your arms can do cardio workouts. Check out the programs that focus on arms. There's one version that is seated.

If there is one rule to rule them all, it's this: If it hurts, back off a bit. This is a rule I have a hard time following, because I am hell on wheels for overdoing things. You've got this! I wish you a speedy recovery.

If you’re dealing with knee pain, recovering from an injury, or managing a condition that limits mobility, you might feel like cardio is off the table But your fitness journey doesn’t have to end there. In fact, it might just be the beginning of something better.

1. Seated Cardio Workouts
  • Seated marches
  • Arm punches with light weights
  • Seated jumping jacks (arms only or with light leg taps)
  • Shadow boxing

2.Gentle Dance or Movement Classes

  • Chair-based dance, tai chi, or even slow Zumba can get your blood flowing and bring back the joy of movement.
  • You don’t have to go full-out—just moving rhythmically to music can lift your mood and keep your heart healthy.
