Getting back on my feet.

Hi all!

For more than a year I've been literally laying in my bed due to mental illness. But with the beginning of September I've started getting back on my feet. Before my illness I've never been really fit, but I used to be semi-active (occasional swimming, cycling, running or climbing). Now my goal is to reclaim my health and mobility and to loose weight in the process (I need to loose about 30kg).

I've already started Foundation Light every morning followed by some stretching. Last week I've added some exercises recommended by physiotherapist to help with my back pain.

Today I've completed day 17 of Foundation Light and I hope to finish it soon. I also went swimming once and commited to my friend that we will go swimming about 2 times a week. Just started 12K Steps challenge as well.

Let it be the begining of the new journey. I'm already wondering which program I will decide to choose next.

Wish me luck.

✅ Foundation Light Day 17
✅ 12K Steps Day 3

Hi All!

Thank you so much for your warm welcome and words of support! It already makes me feel how amazing this community is. You gave me a lot of motivation and encouragement. Thank you! 💚

I'm officialy 3 weeks into my new journey. I think this is the first time in my life I'm sticking for (not) so long with any home exercises. In addition to Darebee, I've received some additional exercises from my physiotherapist to help me with my back pains and to improve spine mobility. And I'm following through! I've also visited swimming pool with my friend twice this week and I've tried riding a bicycle for the first time after a long time (for about 30 minutes and it was a struggle but I've enjoyed the movement and being surrounded by nature).

Completed:
✅ Foundation Light, day 21
✅ 12K Steps, day 6

Only two more days to complete Foundation Light, my first ever program!

I do the program and spine exercises and stretching everyday and swim 1-2 times a week.

I'm already seeing progress, as my body is less stiff, my days became almost painless, and through this month I've progressed into doing exercises on level hard, instead of easy or medium. My body is adjusting pretty well to not laying in bed anymore, which keeps me really hopeful!

Completed:
✅ Foundation Light, day 28
✅ 12K steps, day 12

I've officially finished Foundation Light!! My first program ever!!
Thank you for your support to all of you who happend to show up here 💚

Month ago I've literally got out of bed after laying in it for more than a year. At the beginning I was very cautious with exploring the world again outside of my home and out of my comfort zone. First walks, first shoppings, meetings with old friends, discovering my body's restrictions. But I've started this program and swimming, started physiotherapy, I've got psychological support and I kept showing up. This month flew by so fast, but at at the same time it feels like a lifetime. I'm already forgetting how stagnant and lonely my life was before and I feel like I'm slowly but steadily reclaiming my old happier and healthier self.

Today I'm starting new programs and looking forward for more in the future!

Completed:
💚 30 Days of Cardio Light, day 1
💚 Arms of steel (seated), day 1
💚 12K steps, day 15

Congratulations on your first badge! :fireworks: More than that, though, congrats on all of the progress you've made this month. That took so much courage and strength to take that first step. And then kept taking steps. That is incredible and I hope you are proud of that :)

Seated arms and legs was one of my first programs. Definitely more of a workout than I thought it would be (warning, clenching and unclenching your fists is harder than you'd think). But I found it to be a really good workout, so long as I remembered to pace myself. I am nearly done with Cardio Light and I am enjoying that one. ^_^

Thank you @astro_lizard @Mamatigerj @Fremen @NightWolf714 @graoumia !

Also, thank you @NightWolf714 for your words of encouragement, advice and sharing your experience with programs I'm starting. I really appreciate it!

COMPLETED
✅ 30 Days Of Cardio Light, day 3
✅ Arms of Steel Seated, day 3
✅ 12K steps, day 17

I generally like movement, I really enjoy arms of steel so far. But with today's Cardio routine I've just remembered one thing.
I. Hate. Punches.
I don't know what is it about them that I resent them so much. It's not about how challenging they are or not, because I feel the workout just fine, I just don't "feel" them. I remember my sister telling me sth about the benefits of doing them but I think I wiped it out from my memory so I could steel resent them...

So, I would like to change my attitude towards punches. Maybe just by doing them I could learn to like them someday, or maybe I should learn more about them and benefits of doing them to change my mind around it. I don't know yet. But I'm open to change my mind, as I generally don't enjoy disliking things and I feel they could eventually be quite fun (:

I've also made significant progress in swimming, as ,while in the water pool, I and my friend don't talk anymore during prolonged breaks and we are actually swimming all the time, haha. Quite proud of us !

In the opposite direction of @graoumia 's suggestion, maybe it would help to play pretend a little? Instead of just doing punches, imagine that you're a knight fighting monsters or maybe a secret agent fighting a bunch of goons. Something to and make it more fun. :)

Thank you @graoumia , @Mamatigerj and @NightWolf714 for your ideas and advice! It helped a lot, I've read a little bit about punches and today when they came with cardio routine they felt much better. I've put an intention of fighting off the demons of the past, so I can feel safe and keep fighting for the better tomorrow. It worked like a charm!

I'm more than a week in doing my new programs and I feel good. As challenging as seated arms of steel are, step jack variations put my arms to much tougher test ^^'

Completed:
✅ 30 days of Cardio Light, day 9
✅ Arms of Steel (Seated), day 9
✅ 12K steps, day 21

Still doing stretching and spine mobility excercises, and I'm swimming twice a week.

New things:
🎺I've started playing my trombone again and even got to my old big band rehearsal and it made me so happy. However, my back hurts (but my physiotherapist already works on it so it should be only better).

🔥Also I've took my old hula-hoop and spinned it a little for a past few days. Oh, first time was difficult, but quickly I've started to feel it again and dancing with it again. The body remembers! It brings me so much joy.
I've used to be fire hula-hoop performer so I'm looking forward to getting back on stage one day!

Have a great day and great workouts fellow Bees!

I love this! I'm so glad you're playing music again, it's just such a fantastic hobby. Trombone would be such a cool instrument to play - if I didn't already have a flute and a pan flute sitting around that I've neglected to actually learn I'd consider trying it myself!

What are your favourite big band pieces to play? Did you join in at the rehearsal or were you just catching up with old friends?

Oooh, a fellow musical soul! Flutes usually have such interesting parts in musical pieces.

I've actually joined the rehearsal after few days of home practice and I was surprised how much I remember!
From my big band I enjoy many, but I would choose "Witchcraft ", it's so chill ;)
And NOU'S Blues

But my heart will always belong to big brass bands and marching bands. For 12 years I've played in youth female marching brass band, and one off my all favourite pieces is "Moment for Morricone", still got chills when listening to it, but actually playing it and experiencing being the part of this piece was heavenly!

Finally got a chance to listen to these. The bit in NOU'S Blues when the drums change to playing on the cymbals is my favourite part! Love hearing the horns and how the whole feel of the piece changes.

Moment for Morricone I recognised from every cowboy scene in a movie ever haha - didn't know there was a brass band version! I think later on in the piece when the piccoli (I'm assuming there's a piccolo in there somewhere) plays the main motif and the horns do the response sounds the best compared with the full band doing it at the start, though I suppose it's good to mix it up a bit.

And yes, absolutely agree for the flute having interesting parts! Funnily enough not many of my favourite flute pieces are from jazz or classical, they're mostly accompanying parts in folk, rock, and pop music.

Also happy birthday for yesterday!

Belated Happy Birthday, ZenFighter! :fireworks:

I like Nou's blues.
I played tenor sax for 2 years and now were the time to try myself in a big band. But the one I want meets the same time as my fitness class. And my kids say it's too loud. I sang in a choir, I play the piano, but I never played in a big band.

Thank you @agc and @nell for the birthday wishes! 💚

@agc , yes, this moment when flute plays the motif and the trumpets respond has amazing feeling. If you have any flute pieces that you like and you would like to share, than feel free to post it :) I'll gladly listen.

@nell , another musical soul! saxophone is amazing instrument. I've also sang in a choir and I play piano a little bit. I hope you'll find someday some space in your life for more music if you really feel that it's bringing you joy :)

So, I'm halfway through my programs and I really enjoy them and I am able to do them on hard level. Also I'm also finished with 12K Steps challenge, and of course I'm already thinking what I'm going to start next :)

Today I had the last physiotherapy session, however I still have some back pain (especially on one side while playing trombone and after) but I'm still swimming and doing exercises and stretching for my back and going to still do so. I will probably go for back massage from time to time to finally work this back pains out.

Today I'm on my way to visit my friend in Warsaw. I've already done my Darebee excercises but skipped physio and stretching due to limited time in the morning. I don't know if I will have the space or time to exercise in the following few days, but maybe at least I will manage to do Seated Arms of Steel. We will see, trying to not feel bad about it and just enjoy this little break. I'm coming back in Saturday so with Sunday I should be back on track!

Hopefully I will still keep making my 12K steps a day. Will update this post later of how it went. // Edit: done!

Never feel bad about rest. Taking a break helps keep us from burning out too quickly. Plus, it's not a break; it's a detour. ;)

Congrats on getting back in action and awesome with the music!

LOW BRASS KICK ASS!!! Woohoo!
Some of my favorites to play from Big Bands were:
Sing Sing Sing-Benny Goodman, In The Mood-Glen Miller, Dancing Men-Buddy Rich/John La Barbera, Brass Roots-Doc Severinsen, Birdland-Maynard Ferguson, It's Only A Paper Moon-Arr. Jerry Nowak

And a brassy listen that always cheers me up is VIP by Youngblood Brass Band.

Thank you @Mamatigerj! I really enjoyed seeing my friend and we had a good time together!

Thank you @WolfDreamer for giving me the good perspective. The "detour" approach worked great!

@agc , this music is amazing, make me feel so positive and relaxed, thank you for sharing!

@Logan , thank you so much! Love to see the low brass gang fan! Goodman and Miller are classics, I always enjoyed playing them so much,.and Birdland always have a soft spot in my heart! I also listen to Youngblood Brass Band and they will playing in Berlin in two weeks, so maybe maybe maybe I will have the opportunity to see them, but I don't know yet. My beloved piece is "Brooklyn" and my dream is to play it with the band one day.
So, did I understand write you also played with a big band? What instrument if I may ask? I'm very curious!

So, I'm back home! I did manage to do exercises on Thursday in my friends home, but then I decided to actually chill and don't stress over the workouts. Yesterday I've returned home and I'm happy with the trip I had. With my friend we went to cinema to see "Chopin' Chopin!", we've visited the Invisible Exhibition and one day made a little forest trip and embraced the rainy autumn weather in the nature.

With today's morning I've returned to my workouts and I feel great. I've also used the time change we had this night to get used to getting up an hour earlier and it worked well.

News: I've completed 12K steps challenge!

To continue with walking I think I will now begin 60 Days of Walking Program.
