At the shops you can get green or yellow dried split peas, I got the green.

I made a green split pea and lentil soup with zucchini some turmeric powder and Jamaican curry powder, really good. I add some baking soda during the over night soak.

Comes winter, comes pea soup. My wife is Dutch, so there will be snert! Ideally with rookworst, which is notoriously hard to get here, but there are substitutes.
The turmeric is a nice touch! Will try that.

Hmmm, you're giving me an idea for some of my next meals, with smoked tofy slices roasted and added at the end! I usually do with onion, celery, carrott, and provence herbs.

Not really split peas, but pulses in general related:
I have adapted soaking beans & co. in brine and baking soda with excellent results.

Made some chicken broth from wings and some veggies yesterday. Now the pea & ham is simmering on the stove and I am indecisive if I put the blender in or leave it till the peas fall apart by themselves. That being my biggest problem right now, I can wholeheartedly say: Life is good!
