Hello beautiful people!
I wasn´t sure where to post this, so if this isn´t the right section, I apologize.
I´ve come across Darebee about 2 months ago and been lurking ever since. I´m a fan of old-school forums and I´m not a member of any social media. I´m grateful that communities such as this one, where real, genuine and kind people talk to each other, still exist.
This is me, introducing myself - I will try to be brief.
I´m a woman, married, nearing forties.
I´m lucky to live in a mountain area. I love hiking but hate snow and ice. So, since our mountains are snow-covered for most of the year, I make the most of the hiking from June to September. In winter I walk up the hills that are safe.
As a kid, I was never led to any physical activity at all (save for an occasional bike around the block) and while my diet wasn´t exactly all junk-food one, it wasn´t healthy either. In short, I was a pretty fat dumpling. When I turned fifteen, I tried to deal with that in the most unhealthy way possible. ED had me in its grip for about 3 years. It was only once I went to university when I actually started exercising at all, first time in my life.
I don´t remember exactly, it was more than a decade ago (possibly almost two?) when blogs like BodyrockTV were popular and offered free workouts. I did those for many years, on and off, and also started going to gyms, irregularly. I also ran for a few years (5-10 km daily), but then decided that running is not the best long-term strategy for me (walking is).
Fast forward to now. I fell off the wagon, doing the same workout at home without any variety (just dumbbells, squats), being bored. Joined a local gym this year and was dissatisfied with the experience (the only gym in the town, self-service: cheap, but filthy). Found Darebee and thus found a giant motivation and variety again. I love not having to waste time going to the gym, just roll out my mat and get to work. I love getting done in 20 minutes what an hour of gym time failes to provide. The workouts seem deceptively simple to me, but by set 4 I usually wonder "is it over yet?" and by set 7 I´m usually just grateful that I survived.
As for my relationship with food, it improved over the years, especially since I´ve read a ton about nutrition. I tried many approaches, but what works for me is: low-fat, moderate to high protein (not overboard) and sticking with whole foods. I´m able to cook most of my meals from scratch. I´m celiac, which helpfully rules out most ultra-processed and unhealthy foods anyway. I like fruits, veggies, whole grains and all beans except soy, nuts, seeds, eggs, fish, certain types of dairy and occasionally, meat. I prefer simple, one-pot nutritious meals, which are either quick to throw together or they cook by themselves (put it on the stove and forget about it for an hour).
Recently I´ve added daily yoga-style stretching and a 10-minute mediation to my routine. So far, it has been very beneficial. Overall, my goal with fitness and Darebee is "to be fit for life".
Thank you for having me and I wish you all a wonderful day!
