Run your own race

Last night I had the strangest conversation with a guy in my neighbourhood. We've crossed paths many times while I was out running. Last night he suggested we run together. Then spent the next few minutes explaining why I'd hate it. He runs fast. Very fast. And long. He runs marathons. He runs to the next town and up over the mountain and back. But don't worry, he'd go easy on me.

I left that conversation feeling confused. It's the first time I felt put down by another runner.

We don't get to judge another person's abilities from seeing one training session. We don't know what their goal is for that session, or their training load that week, or if they're rehabbing an injury. Even sessions that look absolutely brutal from the outside — we don't know what it cost them.

Consistency and progression over time is what matters. Defining your own goals and your own version of success is what matters.

So here's what I want this thread to be about: encouraging each other where we're at, being okay with where we're at, no ranking, no judging. Just forward motion.

Run your own race.
Cheer the ones you pass.
