I've got a hardwood wakizashi from my Aikido days, mainly used for Kenjutsu training with a partner and solo version of the set routine. It wasn't thought of as a sword but like a big knife (tanto) style. Very different from the bokken, I remember Darbee had some bokken drills, not sure if still.

My Aikido/Kenjutsu weapons are bokken, wakizashi, 2 tanto and jo staff. Spent at least 4+ hours a week dojo training plus home. Plus 4+ hours none weapon training. I also have my Taijiquan sword and sabre practice.
