My first 4K run

Hi all,
This is my first post here, since usually I'm kind of a lurker.
I started my weight-loss journey a year ago (SW: 231lbs, CW: 182lbs, TW: 155lbs), but my fitness one started when we took a bet with my GM (I play D&D) that our characters would get +2 to strength if we completed Strength +1 for 20 days. That's what got me hooked up on exercising and for the first time in my 30 years of life on this Earth MADE IT FUN! When I finished that, I moved on to more abs related workouts (the majority of my weight is located in my waist), and then took on Momentum Program (I'm on day 20 currently).
So, when I got notice from my job that there's an opportunity to compete in a run, I took it.
The run is on 31st of August, so I have plenty of time to prep.
Right now I'm doing 8 weeks to 5K , since it seems like a good overall program. I'm running mostly on treadmill, although once a week at least I run in a park near my home.

So my question is... Do you have any advice on how to approach it (other than completing the program)? I've never run voluntarily in my life, not even speaking about going to a race. Is there something I should be focused on while exercising, other than just completing the program? What should I do on the days leading up to the run, and the day of in the sense of nutrition, hydration, exercise or rest?

Welcome welcome!

Honestly, you're already doing the things I would suggest (hydrating, working on weight, cardio). So all I can say is best of luck and look forward to hearing how it goes! I use to go running as a kid and I haven't really sense. Maybe your journey will inspire me to pick that back up. :)

Welcome! :hello:

As someone who recently completed the 8 Weeks to 5K program but is still a beginner at running: I feel like the program guides you in good increments towards running 5K in one go. There are, of course, harder days and easier days but overall it is doable and feels like a good system. Personally I took longer than the 8 weeks to complete the program because I only wanted to run three times a week but it seems like this won't apply to you since you have a deadline.

I built a table to visualize the patterns in the 8 Weeks to 5K program some weeks ago and it helped me get a better picture of the program. Maybe it helps you too.

If you want, create a Check In Thread and regularly update it so we can cheer you on.

(Now if you'll excuse me, I've got to join the group of people wanting @NightWolf714 to pick running back up.)
