The rotation of the right leg seems odd to me, at least at 90°

It looks to me like a sidetwist and punch. Left foot on the toes in the second picture.

Body and hip rotation, hmm, sounds plausible. But after a dry run w/o weight, feels quite unpleasant after a 60-70°

Yeah, it does look odd. For me this is one of those exercises that demands a video with a spoken explanation of what’s being done, but since we have no way of knowing if the mods have legitimate fitness credentials (and I suspect that they don’t because if they did their profiles would say so), I don’t think it would be of much help.
