Took him to the beach for a bit, made a sand castle together and collected some seashells. Forty years without any vacation days is crazy. We had a great time. He fell asleep on the way back so I carried him. Straw isn't that heavy apparently.

Yeah, I'm with @Nox on this one. EVERYONE needs a beach day. Hire a fieldhand for the day, Mr. Farmer, 'cause Jack and I are having a picnic and poking around the tide pools to see the critters before we head home.
 
Catching up with Jack was the easy part. True, I could have done with fewer hay stacks along the way (my legs are burning, and I wasn't even able to get all the way to touching the floor ...).

When I caught up, and had talked Jack out of running away, we sat and discussed fair work compensation. As we returned, he was ready to negotiate a working contract (including paid vacation days) with the farmer.

And maybe I also handed him a flyer, "Unionizing 101", just in case there are more sentient scarecrows out there also not getting any days off ... :angel:
