Starting Fresh

Hi guys!

Writing to update- I'm still unpacking my new place, but I'm through the move and I'm officially a month into my new job today! I'm not quite there yet, but once my place is set up the rest of the way at what in my brain is 'tier 1' (all my belongings sorted out, but not necessarily getting everything I have on my 'want' list right away) I think I'm going to join a gym again. There's one nearby that is reasonably priced, and I miss having cardio machines and weights. I'm definitely out of shape right now, but I'm not checking out of fitness so much as taking some time to get my shit together before I focus back in on it. I'll be checking in periodically still!

Had a sudden health thing come up yesterday and I was out of commission after that. But today I did days 22 and 23, with kneeling pushups for skyshield!
Life happens. Be proud that you listened to your body yesterday.

Like it is often said around here, recovery is also training.

Also, well done on pushing through and doing your workout today!

I hope your health is on the mend and that you have a good day.

Okay.

So today I have a bunch of tasks I don't want to do and exactly 0 motivation. I know this is typically for workouts, and working out is one of those things, but screaming into the void here somehow helps me actually do things so I'm gonna include my other bullshit as well. When I feel like this, I can motivate myself by alternating. I want to play darkwood and watch tv. So I'll watch an episode or something and then do some tasks.

  • tidy kitchen
  • laundry
  • work out
  • tidy closet
  • sweep
  • wash floor
  • clean bathroom
  • cook stew
  • dishes
  • cook pasta dish
  • contain the foods and put em away

I signed up for my local gym yesterday! I'm doing month to month for now, but they offer $10 off if you check in a certain number of times and meet with a personal trainer. I went today, and did the elliptical for half an hour plus the '40 strong' workout on level 2 with 13 pound weights for all the moves except the lateral raises, which I used 8s for. They also had a machine that you could stand on and hold and get info about your body fat percentage and weight. I'm currently 200 pounds and 39.7% bodyfat. I looked it up and the healthy range for women is 21-33%, so I'm aiming to get it to 33 for now. When I was in my best shape (had the beginning of abs lol) I was 175 pounds and much more muscular, but at the time my mental health was utter shit.

I'm not going to count calories because it lead me to disordered eating and being generally unhappy, but I do need to overhaul my meal prep. I try to eat reasonably healthy, but I genuinely hate cooking and cleaning after so it's a constant struggle to pull together meals that I can stand. I'm going to aim for consistency; 3 days of lifting, 4 days of cardio, and roughly 150 grams of protein a day. I need to shower and go to bed now, and tomorrow I have appointments, but I'm going to take a deeper look at meal prep this weekend. Also, I signed up for a free (for the first month) ladies' lift class at my gym. I used to love weightlifting and I'm hoping to meet some cool women, maybe make some friends.

I'm also going to be seeing a new therapist because my needs have changed. It's a good thing, because I've gotten well enough that I can start to work on the bigger stuff, but I'm also terrified and frankly overwhelmed. Spooky

I went to the ladies' lift! I'm really proud of myself because I got triggered but stayed, and they were really kind. I even went to the ice cream thing after. Normally when I have an episode like that I spiral and avoid people, but this time I managed to stick around long enough for someone to even be able to be nice in the first place. I'm still learning proper form for some of the moves, but I'm proud that I went.

Update: I did strength training and cardio on Tuesday and again today. I was going to go to ladies' lift yesterday, but I had to report someone to HR that day and it kinda fucked up my vibe. Thankfully HR was supportive; they were really validating and said that what matters is being comfortable in the workplace . I'm hoping that the guy is just awkward and obtuse, and he will get the message from HR and just be normal. Bleh.

Okay, so last week I only managed one day of full body strength training and cardio. I think 2x/week, hitting arms and legs for strength and cardio for 30 mins is a more realistic goal. Today I hit 30 mins of cardio. Tomorrow at ladies' lift we're doing strength training arms, and if I'm up to it after I'll stay and do my other cardio- we'll see! I'll keep going and come back to edit this post as I do these:
