Hi all and happy holidays!

It's the holiday season. And I could use some advice. On Sunday the mate and I will be traveling out of town for the holidays for a week. It's gonna be a bit emotional (this is the first Christmas without my mom) but I'm also looking forward to it a bit.

But every time I visit, my regular routine understandably goes outta wack. We'll be staying at a friend of my dad's summer condo so that does mean we'll get some morning and evening time to ourselves. That should help some.

Any advice for navigating the holidays? I usually end up pausing any workouts and my eating habits sorta fly out the window when visiting, haha. But I'm not sure if that's the best idea or not.

Remember the primary benefit of this time of year is the social connection you get, that is something you may not be able to get (at least to this level) at other times of the year, it's probably one of the most unrated things about Christmas but one of the most beneficial to your health.

Don't pause your workouts, keep the consistency up but drop the level down. For example every day just do the daily workout posted on the front page here, that's it, it will keep you in a routine which is important thing for when the break is over so you don't have to get back into motion again.

Most of all, enjoy yourself, spend time with your family, you only get one of them :friend:

PS. My dad died in 2022 so I understand where you're coming from...

I think the biggest thing I try to remember around the holidays is that... it's 2 weeks out of 52. If you get thrown off for those two weeks, just do what you can when you can.

Go into the holidays as just that: A holiday. Once they're over, things go back to normal with no guilt about what 'should' have been done.

I used to wallow in my 'failures' over the holidays and let that absolutely destroy January and even into part of February sometimes. I had to really do a brain shift to get to the point of just relaxing and enjoying, rather than beating myself over the head with what I should be doing.
