Best beginner routine for someone skinny fat?

I’m around 150 lbs, not much muscle, and most of my fat is around the stomach and chest. I guess you’d call it skinny fat.

What’s the best workout routine to fix this? should i bulk first, cut, or just lift and clean up my diet? Would appreciate simple advice or routines that actually worked for you.

Hi,

you can't choose where the fat will be consume by exercices. Your body will. In time your body will consume all the fat.

Perhaps you need to adapt your diet and pick a program that match your current fitness level here.

You can choose for an everything type or a cardio type program to loose weight.
An everything type can be better if you dont have enough muscle.
Having muscle help your body to consume fat during resting time and these programs includes cardio.

There are guides here where you can find informations about nutrition.

I followed 30 days of change and did some workout on an empty stomach. Do it if you can but listen your body and dont do it on an empty stomach every time.

Mainly you have to be patient.

Happy training !

I would say the diet should comes first for some people you can train as much as you can, it won't be enough. And i hate diet, but it was the only way for my to see results

I'd say which is more of your goal: loose fat, gain muscle, or the same? If you are wanting to loose the fat, diet is your best bet. Working out will build muscle, but won't necessarily burn the fat. Though you can do both at the same time for a more toned look if that's the goal. Though honestly? I'd do whichever is gonna be easier and then add onto it with time. :)

I agree with @graoumia . Food habits ("way of eating, WOE") is 85%+ of the effort to reduce fat mass aka body fat %.
I typically don't name it "diet" even though it is the correct word. Many negatively perceive this word as restrictive.

Exercise is GREAT for many reasons, and longevity and increasing metabolism, but will not directly melt the visceral fat around organs (which is why one gets most of it around the stomach and chest, it's pushing out the inner mass outward). Check out any of Dr. Sean O'Mara's short videos on YT to see what this is about (he shows MRI or CT scans and explains what happens inside). As the saying goes, you cannot outrun a bad diet.

The preferred way to change diet habits is to start gentle (unless you're an all-or-nothing personality type!) and I like Dr. Jason Fung for this. Either of his books and/or many of his interviews will explain how to begin and WHY, most importantly, the changes will be effective. He does not preach any specific WOE but does advocate removing ultra-processed foods and high-carb/starchy items, in general.

As for the gentle way to get into exercise, well, this is why I'm back here since yesterday :) Foundation level 1 program!!
