Am I ready for Christmas? YES, I finally am. Every year I seem to get worse at getting my presents squared away well in advance of Christmas.

I promised chainmail snowflake photos. Not all of these ended up being gifted, but these are all the ones I've made so far. I did not design these.

Gift for f1shie Part 3 - Magic Within: I am planning on figuring out a way to make a snowflake that chains the central mobius of these snowflakes together. This will likely result in a larger snowflake, but once I figure out how to connect them, I think I can figure out how to scale it down.

Forgot to mention how I am doing - I am okay today. My thighs are extra sore, but it's good. Today has been kinda weird because I have had hyperfocusing moments on controlling my breathing and struggling to let the autonomic function resume. That is, until I get distracted again.

It was off to a bad start from the get go. I woke up with 3.5 hours of sleep and a sore throat. I guess my body finally decided it was time for letting go of the drainage from the cold. But we had people to go see. So, we had a ton of car time. I napped for some of it. I barely survived all the family time (other than the sore throat, I felt fine until the evening) and I stubbornly didn't partake of cough drops until we were almost home, so late in the evening.

Ugh. A tiny bit of complaining. I am still bloated from Christmas because the Sprouts tamales that were marked gluten free had cross contamination with gluten. It didn't bother me as much yesterday because I was miserable for other reasons, but today it has been bothering me a bit. But also, I woke up at 0530 this morning because Orion was stepping on my hair. Ouch. Not fun, at all. And while my throat is less sore, I have been low energy and sneezing all day. I pretty much spent 8 hours on the couch, drinking tea and being in low power mode. I am feeling a bit better this evening, but definitely not all the way there. I'm hoping that I'll knock some more of this cold out with some sleep. What I don't understand is why I felt better for two days in the middle?!

Today was full of rabbit holes and distractions, but I have started my journal set up for the new year, so I am not entirely unhappy with today.

Also, allergy shot went great today. I didn't have an anxiety episode today, so I think I can totally confirm that it was as a result of caffeine before allergy shot. I'm just about done with the build-up phase so I'll actually be seeing real world positive results here soon.

Okay, if the last three workouts have shown me anything, the level 1 program was waaaaay to easy. I have literally done 10 days of 30 Days of Cardio in the last 3 days. Next year, I need to up the ante. Sure, I can sub jumping jacks after I can't do them anymore - because then I am doing them and I will do more because I am letting myself get the practice. (I will be able to do more because I am doing more.) That's what's mostly holding me back. I can treat them like I do push-ups - do as many full then swap to knees when it becomes too much. This is my plan - challenging but actionable. I am meeting myself where I am and that is what matters. I got this. I am already 1% better today and I have a plan to keep being 1% better tomorrow.

I'll put up January goals soon. I just need to do some thinking.

Alright, apparently I have decided that in the last hour up to midnight that I would start looking into Secret Santas. Thanks @Sólveig for the encouragement. I have begun to make some actual deductions (and because I have actually enjoyed some adult beverages for once, I am leaving myself plenty of notes so that I can check my work). I now have moved to two highly suspected guesses, but my work has only just begun. I have been having a lot of fun rereading the stories from the last two (three now?) years and checking my notes on peoples threads. But have I found my Santa? No, not yet. :sweat:

I also impulsively started listening to Running Man tonight. So that has been an interesting experience.

But... what I really came to say is Happy New Years everyone!!! Wishing you all the best in the new year!

My January plans:
House of the Valkyrie, 1 min Yoga, Arcade, and a new mini workout. If any of the exercises in the mini appear in my program, I will not repeat them in the mini. So, the only guaranteed one is the negative calf raises (because it never shows up in anything but it is very good for my knee and foot health, which is why I keep it.)

I actually reached 120.9% of box total. That was a really great month, besting October. It's going to be harder to get extra points in January, but I am happy with this outcome.

You know what I was remembering the other day? The themed weeks. I wish I had done some of those when they still existed. If they were still around, I would do one for fun this month and count it as a challenge.

Anyway, I am looking forward to this month. Since I didn't do the boxes all year last year, I can't really do a yearly wrap up. Maybe I'll do something tomorrow, if I feel like it. But I did learn that I do better when I have a chance to overachieve the box score.

I am not going to do a full wrap-up of last year, but here are the highlights.
  • 2026 Beginning of the year weigh in: 232.9lbs - this is down from 2025's first at 251.1lbs. Dang, I hadn't realized that I had lost almost 20lbs last year!!!
  • Major lifestyle change of going gluten free. Later in the year, I started intermittent fasting. I am still loosely doing the IM fasting as follows - I stop eating at 7pm, I cannot eat again until after 7am, though I try to push it as late as possible, but no later than 11am. 14-15 hours seems to be my sweet spot. There are times when the day's schedule does not promote this very well, but I am doing my best to see those as mere hiccups in the plan. I have discovered that I do really well with this, even if my doctor would prefer that I stick to a strict 16/8.
  • I went through some months where working out was tough, but in the end, I am able to do full push-ups and I can do jumping jacks (even if I do talk myself out of them more than I should). I have actually ran a tiny bit when I was being chased by zombies on a new app on my phone and I do find that fun. If I do manage to get M to the gym this year, I may try out the treadmill and walking/jogging more.
  • My sleep is still not great, so maybe that's something I can work on fixing this year.
  • Overall, I am actually happy with my progress over the last year and I feel like I am already making a positive commitment towards doing well this year.

I did really good today!! I had some really good moments today and I was able to hold my sword for the entirety of the fighting. Usually by the end, my arms are getting really fatigued and I end up switching hands or going down to a dagger in my main hand to do weird stuff. But not today!!!!

Other than this one thing that happened, but I talked it out with the main marshal and we've worked it out. Basically, I might have injured a fellow fighter. But upon talking to the main marshal and the offended party and the fact that I was specifically watching out for him so that I wouldn't do anything stupid (because he was an elderly fighter and I actually wanted to give him a good fight and not do stupid young people sh!t like making him chase after me or getting into his space when he would be unable to get out of it). He told me to my face that he was repeatedly choosing to fight me over and over again today because "I was a new fighter and he knew he could take me". I feel super insulted by this because I have been fencing for 15 years (fact check, it is 17 in like August). The body mechanics of the whole thing make it literally impossible for me to have hurt him. I cannot get my dagger or sword behind the buckler to hit him between his first two knuckles. Even if the buckler was somehow twisted in his grip.

In the moment, I apologized profusely (because that is what I do and I hadn't had time to think about it yet), I provided my information for the report (because that is what I am supposed to do per main marshal), and I had myself a good cry afterwards (which earned me a hug and being mom'd. I truly appreciate this, I needed it more than I care to admit.) Oh, and then I wrote up a statement of the facts from my point of view when I got home. ...yay... :giveup:

It's okay. Like I said, I had a good talk with the main marshal. I have fought with her for a while and she knows what sort of person & fighter I am. I logically know that I am fine, but I wish that my feelings would just chill out and know it too. Because I am upset for so many reasons about this.

But hey, after the thing that upset me, while I was putting things away, I got paid a huge compliment by someone I look up to because I did good today. So that helped cheer me back up.

Ugh, my feet are hurting though and I am seriously not looking forward to returning to work tomorrow. I'll get caught up on things tomorrow.

Is it possible you could reframe what happened as evidence of your success? You attempted to give the other fighter a good and fair fight. And you did! As evidenced by the fact that he chose to keep fighting you over and over again. His intentions (to win) were different from yours (to fight well and fairly), but you stood your ground and followed through on your intentions regardless. That's a win for you. The fact that the other fighter apparently couldn't see that you were going easy on him on purpose is further evidence of your success.

Sore. I'm so sore. :bored: But it's pretty much just my feet, but mostly my left foot. I really need new boots for work and new, dedicated shoes for fencing. No more fencing in my work boots. It might be nice for ankle support, but they aren't designed for the movements I'm making. Anyway, it's a lot better now than last night. Some ibuprofen, rest, and KT tape did the trick. Just need better shoes/boots and some more foot stretches and I'll be just fine.

Lowish energy. I did trick myself into lvl 3 on Valkryie.

I had another lightheadedness event concerning allergy shot. Turns out that it can be a side effect of the Allegra that the allergist told me to take before hand. So, I can either be possibly itchy after Zyrtec wears off (from the Zyrtec, not the shots) or possibly lightheaded after taking Allegra and getting the allergy shot. Neither choice is great.

Otherwise, I had a fairly productive day! I got some cleaning done to include my desk!! :hheart: The fake tree is also now put away and as usual, I now have raised scratches from the branches. Quite itchy, but manageable.

Okay, plan for the morning - do 2 days of HoV, 1 ≤10m additional workout (maybe 2 depending on how spunky I feel and how much time I've got), and my challenges before breakfast. Lol, what could go wrong? :haha:
