Sync Across Devices Added - For Community Members
Sync Across Devices Added - An Optional Extra for the Community-Linked Among You
Quick one about the dashboard. Your progress lives in your browser's local storage and for most of you that is exactly how it should stay: nothing to sign up for, nothing to log in to, it just works. That is not changing.
But some of you use DAREBEE on a phone and a laptop and a tablet, keep a community account anyway and have asked for a way to tie it all together. So there is now an optional Sync across devices in the dashboard's Community Connect panel. Switch it on, log in to the community on your other device, switch it on there too and both dashboards show the same thing - workouts, challenges, programs, streak, notes, settings. Mark a workout done on your phone and it is on your laptop a few seconds later.
It is off by default and stays off until you turn it on. If you do not have a community account or do not want one, nothing changes for you at all. (And no, this is not accounts on the main site coming back. We removed those for good reasons and they are staying removed. This piggybacks on the community login you already have.)
How it works
A copy of your dashboard data is kept on the DAREBEE server under your community account. Only you can read it - it needs your community login and nobody else can see it, open it or delete it. You can download the copy or delete it at any time from the same panel you turned it on in.
Before you test - please back up first
This is new and we would very much like it to meet a few real dashboards before it meets everyone's. New code and precious streaks are not a combination to leave to luck, so could you please download a backup before you try it? Dashboard, Backup & Restore, Download My Data. Then you are covered whatever happens.
How to test it
1. On the device that has your dashboard: open the dashboard, press Community Connect, link your community account if you have not already and switch Sync across devices on. There is a short notice to read and agree to first. A small SYNCED mark appears under the dashboard title when it is working.
2. On your other device: log in to the community in that browser, open the dashboard and press Sync From Another Device (it is right there on an empty dashboard) or, if that dashboard already has data of its own, Community Connect and the same switch. Both copies are combined - nothing on either side gets thrown away.
3. Then please try to break it. Mark something done on one device and reload the other. Untick a day. Add a note. Log out of the community and see if the dashboard tells you sync is paused (it should, right under the buttons). Delete the server copy from one device and see what the other one does.
Already have data on both devices?
The first time the two meet they are combined, and nothing on either side gets thrown away. Workouts, program days, challenge days, your streak days, custom entries, personal records - all added together. Something logged on both devices (the same workout on the same day) counts once. Your counts can only go up and your streak can only get longer. The one exception is things there can only be one of - dashboard settings, a Labyrinth or Pandora game in progress, a note on the same workout written on both devices - where the fuller copy is kept rather than a mix of the two. After that first meeting it is simply newest wins: change something on one device and the other follows.
If you would rather not merge at all and want one device to be the dashboard and the other a copy of it, Reset All Data on the second device first and then press Sync From Another Device. (Backup first. We know. We are going to keep saying it.)
If anything looks wrong - a day missing, a count off, a streak that is not what it was - we would love to hear about it here, and the backup you made in step zero puts everything back. Phones of every kind especially welcome.
Thank you
