Eating My Vegetables. Every Meal.
I lost 55 lbs a few years ago, and then -the last few years happened- so I've been trying to retrace my steps and figure out everything that was going right when I was losing weight.
I've still got close to that much to lose, I'm only about half way, but the weight I'm at has been a nice-enough stopping place.
But I'd like to get a handle on my weight-loss again.
One of the things I'd forgotten I was doing, my mom reminded me about, because when I had been losing weight she learned it from me- which was if I eat a cup of vegetables at every meal, I'm not in as much danger of eating impulsively when the next meal comes around. -And I used to be way better about not eating in between meals; I was eating for fuel, not eating for boredom, when I was losing that weight.
These days I'm eating for comfort which is a big part of why I stalled out, but the vegetables, if I eat them, let me eat a finite amount of comfort foods, instead of losing myself in whatever I'm eating.
I've probably only been doing vegetables with every meal for idk 10 days or so, but I've been able to self-talk myself through almost every time. I don't even dislike these vegetables, I just have that old rebellion against vegetables that I learned growing up, and I have to unlearn that rebellion now.
So far, I feel like I'm changing my relationship to vegetables by sticking with this. I once heard Shonda Rhimes talking about how a friend of hers was right, that it would be useful for her to trick herself into liking salads- I do like salads somewhat, but stir-fry vegetable packets are easier for me to eat every day, so that's what I'm working on tricking myself to like instead. There are times I'm even looking forward to the vegetables because they're something I don't have to think about while I figure out what else I'm in the mood for -and whatever it is that MyFitnessPal says I need for my macros. I've been doing MyFitnessPal for a few years now and I hit my macros regularly, now I just need to not over-eat.
Oh and somewhere along the way it'd be good if I could get those Active Minutes from my FitBit back up, but vegetables are the easier step right now.
I'm a video game designer trying to put out my own games, and it's been stressful- that's where I gained all this weight in the first place, and if my career goals stop being so far away, impossible-feeling, then probably I'll have more focus to put into getting my body moving again.
