Personal Accountability

Reading about it is not doing it. Planning it is not doing it. Thinking about it is not doing it.

I went to the gym today. First time in a year? Two? Birthday last month. 56. What am I waiting for?

I read so many of these training logs, and think, "I could do that." But I don't. I'm not sure where to find my motivation. I've tried so many different things to kickstart my goal life. What is my goal? I worked in a Retirement Home for a little while. Do I want to age like that??? So what do I have to do? Exercise. Eat well. Sit less. Move more. Use my brain, but more importantly, treat my body like it deserves - the only home I'll always have.

I've read Younger Next Year by Chris Crowley. An excellent book. A workbook for my next act. My big picture goal? Retire in Scotland. But I want to be able to enjoy it - active, fit, healthy. I don't care how much I weigh other than how my knees feel. I don't care what my body looks like, only what it can do.

So I'll start this here, today. My own accountability. I went to the gym today, 15 minutes treadmill, the 20 minute fix (lower body only) to measure my starting point (weights, reps), 5 minutes on the rower. Intermittent fasting (18 hours)

Day 1, Level 1 Square 1

Right knee is delicate. Need to treat it with extreme care & caution. Avoid the dreaded knee replacement. Giving up bread & Coca-Cola for Lent was hard, but still managing it (tempted last night, but refrained).

No gym today, working afternoon shift, I hate afternoons. But...

Day 2 - Square 1, level 1
Knee rehab exercises (entire set. Knees feel pretty good, glutes a bit sore from yesterday, but knees fine - WooHoo)
Rebounder 5 minutes x 3
Walk 30 minutes
Intermittent Fasting - 20 hours

Sick yesterday (what was supposed to be Day 3), I've avoided Covid for over 3 years, still testing negative, but exposure at work got in my head. Feeling better today, but yesterday, I took a day. BUT, I did some light stretching, intermittent fasting (20 hours), and a bit of rebounding (which, hindsight, probably caused the nausea).

below is activity for day

Today 11 March 2023 (I'm hoping to do this part when I wake up & do knee rehab, then add to it at end of day once I've completed my activity)

Day 4 - Square 1, Level 1
Knee rehab exercises (entire set)
Challenges: Power Grip - Day 1
Posture - Day 1
Intermittent Fasting - 18 hours

This weekend, I'm back at work on my regular shift: 4 on 4 off of nights (2330 - 0730). This always poses a couple of challenges: good quality sleep, fasting, exercising appropriately). Tonight, I hope to go to the gym before going to work as it is on the way & my best option. I don't sleep my first day (up at 0630 Saturday until I get home Sunday morning) but it does help me sleep all day Sunday in preparation for the final 3 nights. I do walk a lot at work & plan on doing some Tai Chi & body weight exercises. I can also do my Square 1 day.

Didn't make it to the gym. Felt great in the morning, but by 1500, felt awful, worse even than earlier in the week. At least I accomplished my exercise goals (no walking - too much snow, no rebounding - avoiding the motion). Still at work, though. I'll sleep well tomorrow.

My one night at work proved how you should wait until you're 100% before getting back to normal. I don't think I've ever felt as unwell. Barely able to make it up & down the stairs. Feeling human today, Friday, for the first time in ages. Still tested negative for Covid, but in the interest of sharing, my husband & daughter are now feeling unwell.

Today, 17 March 2023

Knee Rehab - full set before getting up
All exercises will reset at Day 1 to preserve the integrity of 30 day challenges.
