Question about me starting my NPLQ lifeguard training

Hi all,

As you guys are so helpful I need your help, I am going to start training for my NPLQ lifeguard training at 40 when the kids go back to school in next couple weeks that I aim to complete either February or August all depending on how I feel when Christmas comes along.

I have been given some dry land exercises to do by a one of my customers who used to be a PT.

My question is do I do my dry land training the same day as my swimming practice (I am going to do swimming once a week as that is all my time constraints allow me too do) where I am looking at 2-3 days a week dry land training.

I am hoping that makes some sort of sense as not very good at that 😆

My advice would be not to double up on your pool training days. If you are only able to swim one day per week, you need to make it count.

When you double up with two workouts in the same day, the latter one will suffer due to your not being fully recovered from the earlier workout. This is fine if your second workout is meant to be a lighter, active recovery workout, or you're training in a different modality that's meant to be supplemental and less-intensive than your main training. (e.g.: If your main thing was weight-lifting, but you also wanted to do some cardio, you could do a weight-lifting session in the morning and also go for a light run/jog in the evening. But you wouldn't want to go hard at both things in the same day.) Folks training for endurance events may also want to train two things in the same day because endurance is one of the adaptations they need to develop (e.g.: tri-athletes, ultra-distance runners, etc.)

But in your case: you only have 3-4 training sessions per week. Make all of them count by spacing them out. And don't do a hard dry land session the day before your swimming either. Keep that as an active recovery day so you can ensure you're ready for a high quality workout every time you're in the pool.

Thank you for that the dry land will now probably be a Wednesday and Friday as my swimming will be on a Monday
