"All things are lawful for me, but not all things are profitable. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be mastered by anything."
Hey everybody! My name is Alex, I'm 27 and I'm really new to fitness. Well, I TRIED to do something for a few times, but my problems with alcohol and drugs used to stop me. Now, I quit drinking (no alcohol since July) and started to improve my life. English is not my native language, so one of the many reasons I'm here is that I can practice it. I am also interested in a new environment of people interested in improving themselves and their lives, even if it is virtual.

So, I missed gym classes at school, after finishing school I was a fan of parties and ended up drinking alone most of my free evenings. I don't have any special skills and still trying to figure out what I want to do with my life, and also I'm a trans man, have varicose veins and many other health issues. AND! it all can sound like I'm here to complain, but in fact I'm not this kind of guy. I said all these things just to make it clear why my goals and workouts may seem really small. I want to start gradually so as not to hurt myself and not lose interest.

In fact, I've already started a few weeks ago. I do morning workouts (just a light two-minute workout, but it's better than nothing:hehehe:), train according to a program based on pull-ups with an elastic band (can't do normal pull-ups yet) and push-ups. And now I'm feeling ready to supplement and diversify my activities with DAREBEE challenges and workouts.
So, let's get started and good luck to us all

UPD. I think this post will be edited many and many times :D
first i want to add here this information

Height: 172cm / 5.64 i guesss
Starting Weight: 78.4kg / 164.9

Posting here is harder for me than I expected because I feel a little awkward using English :D
so, i'll google how to deal with this problem and there's a liiitle chance that my posts will become longer and more detailed :spider:

Well, I had weird dreams, slept too much and I'm feeling stupid all day :)
In fact, i've realized that it would be better to write here at least something, and it will gradually make me feel more free and comfortable
more so, the community here is really friendly and nice

Hmm, I also need to figure out what time to write here about my daily activities. I don't like using my phone/computer right before going to bed, but some of activities are better done at night. :spider:
Anyway, it was a quite weird day. I couldn't focus on anything particular and I wasn't in a good mood all day. I didn't work today, but it seems like i got no rest at all.
There's a little thing - I don't even know, how to relax when I'm sober (: so today I did a little cleaning, took a bath for about 1.5h, and all the other time I was like... Being stupid and nervous? :D
But at the same time I can work seven days a week and feel okay. So, there's one more thing to think about :bat:
hehe, so many things to be improved and done and so little time in our lives :reaper:

Today's workout

6 sets of:

Banded pull-ups x3
Squats x3
Push-ups x7

yeah, starting today there will be 6 sets in my workouts (:
the reason i do so few squats is because i have knee problems - but it feels better after i started working out, so, i think, there'll be more of them in the future

today i tried to complete my workout in the morning on an empty stomach, and this was pretty good. i think i can do some of my workouts in the morning now

Also, I want to overcome my caffeine addiction. A while ago, I managed to live without caffeine (coffee, black or green tea, cocoa, chocolate, energy drinks) for about a month and I felt great. I had much more energy, than I do now, and slept much better. Additionally, I needed less sleep. But you know, addiction is tricky :scull: and now I'm using caffeine again every day. And it's really hard to stop! Also, I work as a barista now, which makes it even harder, so this time I decided to go slowly. My first goal (for this week) will be:
  • no caffeine after 1PM
  • no caffeine until 12h have passed from my last meal
In this way, I'm going to control the amounts of caffeine I consume (1-2 cups of coffee or energy drinks a day for starters) and improve my sleep quality. I'll name it Caffeine Control Challenge and add to the list of things I track here :pumpkin:

aaand now, I'm using neural networks to enchance the readability of my posts and improve my English skills

It's only 9PM, but I'm already getting sleepy :scroll: even though today was much better than yesterday. I started reading (actually, listening to the audio version) of Dan Millman's Way of the Peaceful Warrior, started controlling my caffeine intake, and was in a good mood throughout the day

5.11
  • Exercise of the day :x: not today again
  • Recovery Program 5/15 :v: (had to replace a couple of poses)
  • 1-minute meditation challenge 5/30 :v:
  • Sotka training program 44/100 :v: (rest day)
  • Caffeine Control 1/10 :v:
+ 40min walk

Just practice as much as you can! You'll get better and more comfortable over time the more you use the language (I used to work as a writing assistant and I'd liberally give such advice to first and second language students)

Good morning to me and good night/day/morning to everyone! :eheart:
Finally, I have created a morning routine that helps me start my day in a better way than ever before. It's not very special, but it took a long time (well, it wasn't VERY long, about a half of a year from the moment when I started thinking it was time to do it :D)
This is what it looks like now:
  • wake up, stretch a little
  • brush my teeth and wash my face, finishing with cold water
  • drink a glass of water
  • a little warm-up for a couple of minutes
  • weigh myself and write down the value in the exercise book (btw i don't really care about my weight, i'm much more interested in how i feel and look)
  • lumosity brain warm-up
  • light facial massage with cream
  • 1-2 minutes of reading aloud
  • 2 minutes meditation
  • re-read my plans for the day, correct them if it's needed
That's how I try to start every morning now
It doesn't take a lot of time or effort, so it's quite easy to follow. I think I will improve this routine in the future :)

I might steal some of this for myself 😁 I have a very hard time waking myself up in the morning but the water and warm up might help with that...

Oh yeah, I think it's a must-have, especially if you wake up early and it's still dark outside (:
I'll be happy if it helps you too!

It's the first snowy day today, and it's a bad sign for me, as I HATE winter :onfire:
