Gym and Darebee

Hello,

long story short, for the first time in.... a REALLY long time, I actually signed up for a gym. And for the first time, I actually have a machine circuit 2x a week.

There are a whole lot of reasons I won't go into for why this is, but it's how it is now - I do sorely miss the darebee programs though :( And I am wondering if I can do both?

I know that there is always the option to do individual darebee workouts between sets and darebee will still be with me when I am traveling (hotel gyms are... not always a really viable option), but there are still so many programs I would like to try out and I don't know how to get them in...

Hello!
As Duolingo Owl could say,

You absolutely can do whatever you feel most suitable.
Since you do machine circuit twice a week, you can try:
-Yoga (just for stretching)
-HIIT (if machine circuit is easy for you)
-LIIT

It's ok, if you will do, for example:
Monday and Friday- Machine training
Wednesday - One day from Darebee program of your choice.

I see no reason why you shouldn't try to combine the two! Just remember to hydrate and sleep enough, and adapt things to what suits you.

I really like what @Sebastian_Greil suggested and would only add that it is also fine to try something for a while and then stop it or change it if it doesn't suit you. Just be honest with yourself about your reasons ;)

It really depends on which programmes you are looking at doing. Some of the ones that require weights can be nicely incorporated into a lifting session at the gym, other might be ones you do during your lifting rest periods. Or you could do them outside of the gym at another time of day because most of them don't take a lot of time. At the moment, I'm too lazy to try to work out what programme I want to do so I'm just doing a number of challenges while also doing non-Darebee stuff. No big deal. Do what makes you happy. And if you're in the gym only two days per week, that leaves a lot of time (possibly, depending on your schedule) for Darebee programmes.

Ok so the idea is I take a program, try and do it on the off days, and if I can't because it would be two days weights in a row, I adapt.

Makes sense.

LIIT would indeed be a good candidate as yes - machines are hard at the moment.

And yesss I am looking forward to the day I am strong enough to do dumbbell or barbell programs so I can combine the two 🙂

I would stand behind the idea of doing Darebee on your days off from the gym for variety's sake.

If I might overstep my bounds, I actually encourage trying out the free weights (ie barbells and dumbbells): when you feel ready, of course. I'm willing to bet that your gym has weights light enough for you to use.

Oh yes it's planned! I am actually looking forward. I am just giving myself time to adapt to the new routine before I make the step.

A bit of background maybe - I have had a mix of health issues, physical and mental, which combined with ADHD means I am coming out of an extremely sedentary and complicated period. I have never lifted weights before, and starting would require mental energy needed to learn which I simply do not have at the moment.

So, having machines I can just step into and not think about is a godsend at the moment. Once I get into the routine and have a bit more headspace, I plan to tackle the free weight section. :)
