Today's workout was another killer but my hope is that I'll start to see results by the end of the month if I keep up with this pace.

JANUARY 2026 WRAPPED 🔥

The Numbers:

  • 21 workouts completed (20 different days)
  • 24 minutes average per workout session
  • 8+ hours of training for the month
  • 27 days of meditation (14 min average per session)
  • Weight: 170 lbs → 167 lbs (3 lbs down, 17 to go)
  • Goal: 150-155 lbs by Memorial Day (117 days remaining)
What Worked:
  • Dry January gave me better sleep and more energy
  • Morning meditation + workout routine became automatic (27 days of mindfulness!)
  • Brick app locks many of my most distracting iPhone apps from 10pm until I un-brick it after my meditation and workouts are done
  • Started adding dumbbells (7.5 lbs) and extra reps to level up intensity
  • Discovered Darebee's Fighter's Stretch and Full Stretch for better pre-workout prep
Real Talk: 68% workout rate while job searching, building my startup HappiKid.com, and solo parenting multiple days. 87% meditation consistency (27 out of 31 days). Not perfect, but consistent. And consistency is what transforms bodies and minds.

I missed workout days. I had late starts. I dealt with interrupted sleep from my 3-year-old. But I showed up 21 times for workouts and 27 times for meditation. That's 48 intentional sessions of self-improvement in one month.

What I'm Learning: The only way to eat a whale is one bite at a time. Every workout compounds. Every meditation session sharpens my focus. Every decision to move instead of scroll builds the habit. The beach body I'm working toward isn't built in January—it's built by showing up in January, then February, then March.

February Week 1 Check-In: Already off to a strong start:
  • 4 workouts in first 6 days (67% rate)
  • 5 meditation sessions (83% rate)
  • Closed all Apple Watch rings 2 times this week
  • Average 29 min workouts, 12 min meditation
February Goals:
  1. Complete the 28-Day HIIT Challenge and earn that badge (6 days in, 22 to go)
  2. Lock in a consistent morning routine - shift wake time from 7 AM to 6 AM, complete meditation and workout before 8 AM to be ready for work by 9 AM
  3. Increase consistency - push from 68% to 75%+ workout rate, maintain 85%+ meditation streak
January built the foundation. February refines the routine and makes it bulletproof before my new job starts.

The momentum is real. Let's keep building. 💪

Today's Wins:
✅ 18 minutes of morning meditation (Insight Timer)
✅ 4-min warmup
✅ Fighters Stretch
✅ Circuit Workout (4 rounds, no breaks): • 1-minute jumping jacks (Day 7 of 28-Day HIIT Challenge) • The Roaster Workout (modified with progressive reps + 5-count plank holds) • EoD: 40 side leg raises total (10 per side after each round)
✅ Post Workout Recovery Stretch
DONE
This workout was a barn burner! Started each round with 1 minute of jumping jacks from the HIIT Challenge, then immediately moved into The Roaster circuit.
My modifications:
  • Progressive reps: Instead of doing just 1 rep of plank jacks, jump squats, and plank jump-ins, I increased them each round:
    • Round 1: 3 reps each
    • Round 2: 5 reps each
    • Round 3: 7 reps each
    • Round 4: 9 reps each
  • Added plank holds: After completing all 5 pushups in each round, I held a 5-count plank to lock in control under fatigue
  • EoD addition: After finishing each full round, I did 10 side leg raises per side (40 total across 4 rounds)
I've been watching the Winter Olympics since they kicked off yesterday, so I guess I was inspired to push harder and increase my reps for today's workout. Pretending I'm training for Team USA this month! 🇺🇸

See you tomorrow busy bees!

Today's Wins:
✅ 10 minutes of morning meditation (Insight Timer)
✅ 4-min warmup
✅ Fighters Stretch
✅ Circuit Workout (5 rounds, no breaks): • 1-minute high knees (Day 8 of 28-Day HIIT Challenge) • Kettlebell HIIT Workout (25lbs) • Mean Abs Workout
✅ Post Workout Recovery Stretch
DONE

After my morning coffee and breakfast (sliced hardboiled egg on toast with hummus), I decided to add Kettlebell HIIT to today's circuit. It matched my Winter Olympics challenge theme, had good variety, and wouldn't completely wreck me before Mean Abs destroyed my core. Plus it transitioned naturally into the ab work.

With the windchill hitting -15 degrees in Jersey City today, I'm grateful I could crush a full HIIT session indoors. Who needs the Milano Cortina slopes when you've got a kettlebell and a living room?

Today's Wins:
✅ 10 minutes of morning meditation (Insight Timer)
✅ 4-min warmup
✅ Fighters Stretch
✅ Circuit Workout (5 rounds, no breaks): • 1-minute jumping jacks (Day 9 of 28-Day HIIT Challenge) • Power HIIT Workout (12.5 lbs) • Run, you clever boy and remember
✅ Post Workout Recovery Stretch
DONE

After eating calzones and drinking a couple of Left Hand Milk Stout Nitros while watching the Super Bowl from my couch last night, I weighed in at 169.5 pounds. Since I want to lose that weight plus a few extra pounds to stay on track toward my goal of 150 pounds and 12-15% body fat, I knew I needed another killer circuit workout. This one not only builds muscular endurance but also works on strength. After really pushing myself, I rewarded myself with a protein shake (mixed with a bit of coffee) and two pieces of toast with hummus and sliced hard boiled eggs on top. What's your typical post-workout meal?

Looking forward to getting after it tomorrow!

Today's Wins:
✅ 15 minutes of morning meditation (Insight Timer)
✅ 4-min warmup
✅ Fighters Stretch
✅ Circuit Workout (3 rounds, no breaks): • 1-minute high knees (Day 10 of 28-Day HIIT Challenge) • Highlander Workout
✅ Post Workout Recovery Stretch
DONE

Didn't get to workout until the late afternoon so today was more of a "chill" workout day. Probably a good thing after the last couple of days of tough workouts.

Today's Wins:
✅ 9 minutes of morning meditation (Insight Timer)
✅ 4-min warmup
✅ Fighters Stretch
✅ Circuit Workout (4 rounds, no breaks): G.I. Jane Workout —> Pull Day Workout (10 lbs) —> 1-minute jumping jacks (Day 11 of 28-Day HIIT Challenge)
✅ Post Workout Recovery Stretch
DONE

This workout was no joke. 4 rounds with no breaks meant I ended up completing 40 burpees, 100 push-ups, 120 sit-ups, 140 squats, and 160 jumping jacks. Add in 200 reps of pulling work with 10lb dumbbells and you've got yourself a monster session.

What made this circuit work so well was the balance. GI Jane hammered my chest, triceps, and front delts with all those push-ups and burpees. Then Pull Day gave my back, biceps, and rear delts the same treatment. Instead of overloading one side, I walked away with a complete upper body workout.

Ending each round with jumping jacks was the perfect finisher. Had to stop after round 4 because my handyman came over so it was a good stopping point. Happy with the daily habits I'm building.

Today's Wins:
✅ 25 minutes of morning meditation (Insight Timer)
✅ 4-min warmup
✅ Fighters Stretch
✅ Core Code
✅ Circuit Workout (3 rounds, no breaks): 1-minute high knees (Day 12 of 28-Day HIIT Challenge) —> Kettlebell 150 (25 lbs)
✅ Post Workout Recovery Stretch
DONE

Friday the 13th - Feeling sore from the last few workout and still weighing 167 pounds. I changed into my gym clothes and did a 21 minute morning meditation but, about an hour after daycare drop-off, got a call that my toddler was throwing up. Turns out there’s a nasty stomach virus going through the daycare—lots of kids are getting sick. Brought her home and took care of her. Got my workout in that evening by doing lots of walking around Manhattan.

Saturday to Tuesday, I skipped out on meditation and exercise. Just wasn't feeling up to it due to poor sleep and family being in town.

Today's Wins:
✅ 6 minutes of morning meditation (Insight Timer)
✅ 4-min warmup
✅ Fighters Stretch
✅ Circuit Workout (3 rounds, no breaks): 1-minute high knees (Day 13 of 28-Day HIIT Challenge) —> Fury Workout (with Extra Credit: 4 push-ups + 4 raised leg push-ups each set.) —> 1-minute jumping jacks (Day 14 of 28-Day HIIT Challenge)
✅ Post Workout Recovery Stretch
DONE

Due to my laziness, now I'm playing catch-up on the HIIT Challenge by doing two days at once until I'm back on schedule.

Today's workout reminded me how much I needed to move again. But it also made something clear: I need to start waking up earlier. I received my formal job offer today! My new job starts March 10th, and if I don't build the habit of working out before 7 AM now, it's going to be way harder to figure out later.

For those of you who workout before work: when do you wake up, and what time do you actually go to bed? I'm trying to figure out what's realistic. My thinking is 5:30am wakeup and 10pm bedtime.

Today’s Wins:
✅ 4-min warmup
✅ Fighters Stretch
✅ Circuit Workout (no breaks): 3 rounds of 1-minute jumping jacks (Day 15 of 28-Day HIIT Challenge) —> Rogue Workout (5 sets, Level II) —> Kettlebell HIIT (3 sets, Level I — 25lb KB for swings, lunges, squats, climbers & sitting twists / 35lb KB for bent over rows & upright rows)
✅ Post Workout Recovery Stretch
DONE

Been out of commission for a few days — sick, then a blizzard that left zero time to myself — but today felt like a proper return. Happy to finally get back into the swing of things (pun intended).

Day 15 down — officially past the halfway mark on the HIIT Challenge. Upgraded the standard format to 3 rounds of 1-minute jumping jacks with zero breaks, which made it feel like a true circuit. The kettlebell work was the perfect comeback session — going heavier on the pull movements with rows and upright rows at 35lbs felt like exactly the right call after a few days off.

Still dialing in the morning routine before the new job kicks off. The goal is to make this a before-7am habit so it’s locked in by March 10th.

Today’s Wins:
✅ 4-min warmup
✅ Fighters Stretch
✅ Circuit Workout (3 rounds; no breaks): 40-seconds high knees (Day 16 of 28-Day HIIT Challenge) —> 40-seconds jumping jacks (Day 17 of 28-Day HIIT Challenge) —> Kettlebell HIIT (3 sets, Level I — 35lb across the board) —> Lazy Abs (50 flutter kicks + 10 slow back extensions per round)
✅ 6-minute Post Workout Recovery Stretch
DONE

Days 16 and 17 in the books — still playing catch-up but closing the gap fast.

What I really liked about today was the natural flow of it all. Started with explosive cardio to get the body firing, transitioned into kettlebell work to build strength from top to bottom, then finished on the floor with Lazy Abs — flutter kicks lighting up the lower abs and hip flexors, followed by slow back extensions to balance out the posterior chain. It felt like a complete session with a beginning, middle, and end. That kind of intentional progression makes it easier to stay locked in from start to finish.

The momentum is back — and today proved it.

Today’s Wins:
✅ 4-min warmup
✅ Fighters Stretch
✅ Circuit Workout (3 rounds; no breaks): 40-seconds high knees (Day 18 of 28-Day HIIT Challenge) —> 40-seconds jumping jacks (Day 19 of 28-Day HIIT Challenge) —> Hero Squats (3 sets, Level I — 4 hero squats + 10 side leg raises per round) —> Kettlebell HIIT (3 sets, Level I — 35lb across the board)
✅ 6-minute Post Workout Recovery Stretch
DONE

Days 18 and 19 in the books — the catch-up grind continues. Today’s circuit had a great rhythm to it: cardio to ignite, squats to load the legs, then kettlebell work to finish strong. The Hero Squats are deceptively tough — that wide explosive jump into a deep touch-down position lights up the glutes and quads before the side leg raises finish off the hips. Stacking them before the kettlebell session meant the legs were already warm and working by the time the swings started.

Full disclosure: the session ran longer than expected. My building’s property manager came into the gym to wipe down equipment and we ended up talking the entire time. Rest periods were… generous. But the work still got done, the conversation was good, and sometimes that’s just how it goes.

Getting closer to being back on schedule. The streak is alive.

Today's Wins:
✅ 12-minute morning meditation (Insight Timer)
✅ 4-min warmup
✅ Fighters Stretch
✅ Circuit Workout (3 rounds; no breaks): 40-seconds high knees (Day 20 of 28-Day HIIT Challenge) —> 40-seconds jumping jacks (Day 21 of 28-Day HIIT Challenge) —> BBQ Workout (3 sets, Level I)
✅ 6-minute Post Workout Recovery Stretch
DONE

Days 20 and 21 in the books. Didn't finish the HIIT Challenge by the end of February like I'd hoped, but that's not stopping me — the double-up continues until it's done. No excuses, just execution.

Started the morning right with meditation before anything else — mind first, then body. I meditate more often than I log it here, so consider this a reminder to myself to start tracking it consistently. The BBQ Workout was a natural fit for the circuit — a solid HIIT session in its own right that paired perfectly with the Challenge rounds to make the whole thing feel complete. Three sets at Level I kept the intensity dialed in without leaving me gassed for the recovery stretch.

Looking forward to knocking out the next one tomorrow morning and keeping the momentum going.

:tuzki-birthday: Happy Birthday :tuzki-birthday:

It’s been a minute since I last checked in.

I definitely fell off the wagon for a while, but since June 22, I've gotten back into a groove with a twice-weekly workout. It’s a 20 to 30-minute outdoor session I do with a friend, which has been a lifesaver for keeping me accountable. Having someone else rely on me to show up makes all the difference, especially with my brain being the way it is.

The routine itself is pretty straightforward. We run up and down a 100-step staircase twice, tackle a winding hill right next to it, and then knock out three sets of pushups, squats, and either dips or burpees (10 to 15 reps each). By the time we finish those 3 sets, I am completely gassed. I've also started messing around with a 35-pound kettlebell on the side, and slowly working my way back into a regular meditation and journaling habit.

If I'm being honest, getting here took some work. I got unexpectedly let go from a new job back on May 1, and I think I hit a pretty solid patch of mild depression after that. Everything just ground to a halt. The workouts, the journaling, and the meditation all went out the window. Doing nothing was definitely easier in the moment, but looking back, it just fueled a miserable downward spiral of low motivation and low confidence. Those outdoor sessions with my friend were honestly the exact jumpstart I needed to pull myself out of it.

Work and fitness aside, today is actually my 10-year wedding anniversary! We are heading into Manhattan tonight to try out a Michelin-star restaurant to celebrate. Hitting that milestone got me thinking about how much or how little I’ve changed over the last decade. Physically, I’ve definitely put on 10 to 15 pounds, and I still haven't managed to shake that "skinny fat" phase to get actually ripped like I always wanted. But consistency is the whole battle, so I'm pushing myself to finally hit that goal by the end of the year.

Speaking of consistency, today’s workout kept the momentum going. Here is how the session broke down:

- Morning Meditation: 5 minutes of quiet meditation to get my head right.
- Treadmill Walk: 27-minute walk that clocked in at 1.67 miles.
- Warmup & Stretch: A quick 3-minute warmup followed by a full-body stretch.
- Darebee Workout of the Day ("Back Into It"): 5 sets completed in about 6 and a half minutes, consisting of:
- 10 hops on the spot
- 10 bicep extensions
- 10 elbow clicks
- 10 jumping jacks
- 10 squat jacks
- Bonus Triceps: 5 triceps extensions after a short break.
- Kettlebell Circuit ("Morning Bell"): 3 sets using a 35-pound kettlebell, wrapping up in about 9 minutes. Each set consisted of:
*5 swings
* 5 squats
* 5 swings
* 5 deadlifts
* 5 swings
* 5 deadlifts
* 5 bent over rows
- Cooldown: 5 and a half minutes of cooldown stretching.

My body is definitely feeling the work, but there is nothing quite like the satisfaction of getting back into a rhythm after a little break. Done by 11:15 a.m.
