In updates:

I got my hair dyed again. I promised myself I'd never bleach my hair but there comes a time when I break all of my promises. I can't say it wasn't worth it. The color came out absolutely stunning.

I'm going to my mom's for Passover. It's an apartment so I picked out ten light upper body workouts to do and printed them out. My streak lasted thus far through some tough times, but being out of town for the first time since I started might just be the greatest test so far. I might switch to a different fitness routine while I'm gone but I will NOT give up on my streak.

But if I'm not online as much as I usually am, it's just the holiday.

Day #234

Ten is very hard. Much harder than I thought it would be. The exercises themselves aren't hard but doing them for ten minutes without a break is a lot more challenging than I imagined. I'm used to HIIT or LIIT where you get a minute break in between each minute of exercise.

So sometimes I take a break halfway through, just pause the timer for a minute or so. Get some water. As long as I do all ten minutes it still counts, right?

I also skipped a couple days that I wasn't as comfortable doing without privacy. I'll go back and do them when I get home. It still counts, right?

@Calico answers are always appreciated! I keep having to remind myself that doing a little is better than doing nothing at all. I'm a bit of a perfectionist and feel like I have to do everything to the max. Technically I know it's better to slow down and take breaks than to give up altogether, but it's hard to squench that perfectionist guilt.

@Maegaranthelas it is so much harder than expected! I think I'm going to continue with it but I'm thinking of doing it as a stand alone program rather than as a side quest...

@Haleth thank you!!!

No update today really. Everything's same old. I'm impressed by myself for keeping my streak over Passover. I really, really, really thought it would be impossible. But apparently it's just that deeply ingrained now. And it's easier than I ever thought it would be. I just keep remembering how hard I worked to get this far and how it would be a shame to give it all up now.

I am so proud of you for making daily exercise a part of your life.
I remember how much you struggled with it, especially when you couldn't do it 'perfectly' on a day.
You're doing great :morelove:
Thank you so much! This really means a lot to me :cute: I have come so far but it's easy for me to underestimate my progress, like 'nah it was always easy' even though I clearly remember just how much it wasn't :soaked:

Update

I'm making two major but necessary changes to my fitness routine. The first is that as long as I do at least one session of exercise sufficient to move my streak forward (see below), it's okay to split up the Side Quest between days as I did here (doing seven sets of 60 days of HIIT over two days instead of all at once).

The other change is that not only Darebee workouts count towards my streak progress. The three things that will count going forward are A) one complete day of a Darebee program - or any Darebee workout - at maximum level, B) a Zombies Run episode (minimum 3 km or 30 minutes of running, double if walking, episodes can be split up) or C) at least twenty minutes playing a Switch fitness game. (Although if I can do an extra Darebee workout on top of that all the better. But not necessary any longer.)

Although my main focus will always be Darebee, it's not actually a bad idea to throw other options into the mix and see what happens. Also, it's not really set in stone or anything, over time I'll figure out what is the most reasonable minimum requirements to move my streak one day forward.

And I'm on month eight, officially. Not bad timing to try different things and see what happens.

Days #239 - 240

@TopNotch thank you! I appreciate the reassurance. I know I do have this perfectionist streak where I'm like "GET ALL THE BADGES ASAP" and it's hard for me to mentally break that attitude and decide that progressing in RingFit or Zombies Run is just as good

As it is, I think it's good I started with Darebee. I've learned that even minimal gamification is sufficient to make workouts enjoyable. All I really need is a badge to aim for and I'm golden :moves:

UPDATE

One more guideline I’m trying to stick to is only two fitness sessions per day that both contribute to the streak, max. Otherwise I’ll end up accidentally overdoing it. It’s tempting to try to do Zombies Run and the Switch and Darebee all on the same day… but no.

I’m also trying a new thing I’m calling “freestyle fitness.” It’s where I don’t follow any challenge or program or game or app. I just pick some things I want to get better at, and make up my own path to get there. Right now I’ve picked elbow planks and knee push ups. I’m starting with twenty seconds and five push ups once a day, and I’ll add five seconds and one push up every five days. I want to get that elbow plank and push ups badges… slowly slowly but I’ll get there.

This upcoming week, I'm going to doing two new experiments.

The first experiment is Water Only Days. If I drink only water (with the necessary exception of milk at breakfast) I get to check off one Water Only Day. The goal is to collect five every week and twenty every month. It's a little more structured than what I was doing before, it gives me grace to continue enjoying drinks I like in moderation, and I'm hoping the structure and grace will help me actually stick to it this time around.

Secondly... I'm thinking I really need a semi-break from social media. I don't just mean Facebook and Instagram, but also discord and snapchat. Two friends disappeared from my life four months ago, one I couldn't talk to anymore and one who couldn't talk to me, and ever since my social media have felt a little too quiet and different and weird. Granted, one of those friends "came back," but I haven't heard from her in weeks. I've finally decided that maybe I need to find my own center and silence instead of chasing ghosts of how life felt before. I wouldn't disappear entirely - it'd be unfair to the friends I still do have - but maybe I'll just tell them I won't be online as much for the next few weeks and trust them to cope with it. The reason I have to write this out is because otherwise I won't actually commit to doing it, and I think it's something I need to do before the quiet and weirdness drive me mad.

Experimental points thingy
Only water +2
Offline detox + 3
Total points: 5

I went to all the friends I speak to every day and told them I'm taking some time off social media, that I'll still be online but maybe not quite as much.

They were all really supportive and cheered me on.

Sometimes I wake up and look around to see that I'm surrounded by a lot more love than I realize.

I also finally messaged the friend where things have been rocky and quiet the past few months. I told her she didn't need to worry about answering my last message if she was struggling with it, and we negotiated a truce and agreed that we'd worked out what we'd needed to work out, and we could resume our friendship. So we caught up, a bit, before she went to work.

And with one of my best friends back in my life, for real and forever, I think my old happiness will be a little easier to find.

I've spent so long pretending I didn't miss her, and it was a weight off my heart to finally tell her I did.

☑️go to bed on time, day #2

I'm doing okay, mostly. Been a little tired. I'm trying to shift my sleep schedule so that I'm in bed and off my phone around or before 11:30 PM every night (11:45 PM latest, I have a goal but fifteen minutes wiggle room). I did it twice in a row so far (LET'S GET THAT BADGE), BUT for some reason I haven't been able to get up much earlier. Yet. I've also been drinking a liter of water every day. I know people say to aim for two liters, but I have a small body and around a liter is usually more than enough for me.

Tomorrow I'm going to the cinema to see Thunderbolts. I wasn't going to go right away, but my friend watched it and she wanted me to see it so she'd have someone to freak out with. I guess she really liked it. Well, we'll see.

Not much. I want to be doing more. I've just been so... tired. That even just the one workout takes great effort.

I don't know why I feel so worn out and tired. I've been going to bed earlier and not getting up that much earlier. Maybe just the shift in my sleep schedule is throwing me off? I don't know. I just want to not feel like I haven't slept in a week.

Thanks everyone! I've been really struggling with inexplicable exhaustion lately. I just... don't know where it's coming from, but anyway, here's my update.

Started iron supplements this morning, pretty much I and everyone around me are hoping it gives me some of my pep back.

:hug:I hope too it will help you. For an exhausted person you did a lot
Thank you! I've been down on myself that I haven't been doing as much as I used to lately but at least I still have that streak going :thankyou:
