"Old to Exercise, Beginner to Darebee"

Role Play Program = Role Play Fun!

((OOC: So, after many years of reading darebee programs I finally decided to DO them, even if I'm doing them alone. The programs I've chosen are the addons "Back and Core" and "Unbound" as my warmup and cool down, with "Ronin's Sword" as my primary exercise. Though I am quite out of shape I do have experience with the katana and bokken and also decided it would be the most fun in a way that I wouldn't necessarily dread working out. On top of that, choosing an RPG plan gives me the opportunity to attempt to role play and write in first person, which is a first for me. I've done a lot of writing, but always in third person, so this will be a creative exercise as well as a physical one.))

My hips hurt. That was the first thought that entered my slowly waking mind as I rolled to my other side. Only to find that that side was just as hard and uncomfortable as the first. But that wasn't right... my bed was soft, this felt like...

"Camping?" The word came out as a confused grumble. Why would I be camping? Why didn't I remember going camping?

That thought sped up my groggy brain more than the discomfort. I held my breath and squeezed my eyes tightly shut, as if I could will the world to make sense if I just didn't open them. But it was no use, my inhaled breath brought with it the scent of damp air and rich earth, and now that I was listening for it, I could hear the swish and rustle of leaves and branches. Slowly, I let out my breath, bracing myself to open my eyes and see where I was. Only to have the warm slimy tongue of an excited dog sweep across my face, his strong chest bowling me over onto my back as he tried to get in as many morning kisses as possible before being pushed away.

"Pleh... Bleh... Kingston... enough... Enough!" I did finally manage to push the dog off, sitting up to bring my face out of his easy reach. The basset gave up, sniffing around my lap, then the ground around us in excited curiosity. We were in a forest. Lovely, alive, and unrecognized.

"Where... How..." Eventually I would have to string more than single words together, but as my only audience was a young dog, it wasn't exactly necessary yet.

It was still quite dark, with the barest hint of dawn lighting the sky between the thick branches of the surrounding trees. The white tip of Kingston's wagging tail stood out starkly in the gloom as I squinted to try and see past the shadows of the closest trees. I made to stand, pushing myself up, except as I reached my right hand down it didn't find ground. It found...

"A sword?" It was a simple katana, with a black lacquered sheath and hilt, even the guard was black and unadorned. Struggling to my feet I drew the first few inches of the blade, only to be blinded by white light and nearly knocked back on my ass. Finding my feet, I blinked the spots from my vision and drew the blade again. This time without looking directly at it.

It glowed white, like a powerful flashlight, banishing the darkness and shadows of the forest glen Kingston and I found ourselves in. I hardly had time to process the continued strangeness when Kingston began to bark, backing up with each bay until he hit the back of my legs. Turning to investigate what had set the normally lazy hound off, I saw that not all the shadows had been banished by the light.

A dark... something... swiped at me with long claws reminiscent of bare trees outside a child's window on a full moon night. Without thinking, I drew the sword fully, dropping the sheath to the ground and taking it up in both hands to defend myself against this new and strange threat. More creatures were separating themselves from the shadows of the trees, cast long and dark by the light of my blade. They seemed to bring the darkness with them as they moved, trailing wisps of gloom. Living shadows, they had no eyes, and no features I could make out at all. As if they were merely the cut out of a twisted humanoid monster, a silhouette given life.

I fought with all I had... but damn... I was out of shape...

To be continued.
