"Striving to be the change."
It takes some mindfulness to slow down and enjoy the advent / winter season / winter solstice!
Yup. It also, unfortunately, often takes saying no to people who will get very upset with you if you say no to their Christmas plans. I refused to visit my parents on December 25 one year because I lived a two hour drive away, the only vehicle I had available to me was a pickup truck (with nothing to weight down the back tires), and the roads were super icy. Fishtailing down a 100kph highway (where everyone actually drives at 120+) is not my idea of a good time. So I called my parents and told them I could not come.

My father lost his shit. Both of my parents accused me of all sorts of horrible things. Then I hung up the phone and spent the rest of the day alone in my attic apartment, eating leftovers and watching Xena: Warrior Princess on my tiny little television set (tuned in via the set's rabbit ears). Best December 25 of my life up until that point! Which taught me just how stupid and inappropriate all of the pressures we put on people to do miserable and even dangerous things at this time of year are. It's much easier to be mindful and stay healthy once one has figured this out.

"Motivation is temporary. Discipline is forever."
I've noticed that I always end up getting sick in December, so there's something wrong. In recent years I've managed to mitigate the end-of-year ailments a lot, but there's still something wrong :P
People often get sick when they begin to relax, when the majority of the usual stress is off - so basically, when you finally get holidays, you become crook! I would see it as the body's way of rejuvenating (though I can think of nicer ways!), of getting rid of various toxins and of cleansing so as to prepare you for whatever comes next.
Be gentle with yourself and remember that after this troublesome 'rebirth' you will emerge fresh and whole again. Once you've got rid of all the snot.

Today we happily celebrated our Christmas, we pampered ourselves, we had breakfast with pancakes, maple syrup and honey, we turned on all the Christmas lights in the house and opened the presents laughing, Merry Christmas to us :)

I really liked @TopNotch 's suggestion that my body is purging to regenerate.
If my body needs to slow down and purge to regenerate, that's okay and it's right that I give it all the help I can.
Which is still much better than thinking that you're sick because you're sick and hoping that it will pass as soon as possible, suffering in the meantime
I'm really enjoying Fit December, it's a maximum of 10 minutes of training (without rest), perfect for doing something but without exaggerating, a perfect active recovery :)

Last night we had a very pleasant aperitif with the Muay Thai group from the gym, laughter, jokes, a good time spent together in a light-hearted way, getting to know each other a little better.
It is for this kind of healthy sociality that I go to the gym, not for the class or the training but for the people.
It only took us 3 years to get organized
but now the road is open :)
