We had a Christmas party at work today. It was awesome to see the comradery in the room. We did also have a white elephant present exchange and again this year, more duds than gags and good gifts. I appreciate allowing things to be brought from home, it results in some cool, homemade stuff. Like the really cool pen holder and the guy who does wood turning. But, then there are the gifts that are random tchotchkes that their spouse told them to get rid of. I appreciate a good gag gift, and they certainly have their place in the exchange. I don't know, I guess I just feel like some people use it as a way to get rid of junk. And I thought that we liked each other, so why give each other junk? While I say now that I don't know if I'll play next time, I probably will because of wanting to be included and because its in the spirit of things.

In other news, foot hurts less today. Still hurts, but not as much.

❄️ Happy holidays Bees!! ❄️

At least they gave away junk that was already in circulation instead of creating even more crap for an already overflowing landfill?

I understand your feelings of not wanting to be left out. I've participated in white elephant gift exchanges for the same reason. But I don't like them. I can think of many far more enjoyable party games that don't worship unhealthy hyperconsumerism or leave participants stuck with taking home some piece of crap at the end of the night that they don't want.

Yeah, you have a point. I just wish people would think about what they are putting in and whether or not they would want to be receiving that for their gift.

Usually we play more games, but this was the only one we did this year. I can think of plenty more fun games.

I am also at odds currently with our party planning team. Their commitment to fun, enjoyable parties has been lacking. We didn't put anything together for Thanksgiving. We didn't plan the offsite holiday party until too late and even then, they reserved a place to eat and drink, with no games or activities, at two hours after our potluck. Who wants to go eat more food after just consuming food? Not me! I already had a bit of a tummy ache because I ate one too many tamales.

"But that's not the point Syrius." Is what I got hit with. Okay, so the point is to go be social and drink? I don't really drink, in fact, half the office doesn't drink for various reasons. No to mention, I don't think Ubers go out to this place and even if they did, I wouldn't want to leave a car there. As for the social part, I am an intorvert. I used all my social spoons at the onsite party/potluck. I don't want to go "have fun" when I know that I am not going to have fun. So I feel like I'm going to go back to work on Monday and have to explain myself over and over.

I tried to bring up planning the location for the afterparty back in October, but kept getting shut down with "No Syrius, we are planning Halloween now. We'll talk about it after that." My job keeps me from attending all the meetings so we suddenly went from having a raffle (yes, more consumerism), a white elephant, and a few games, to just the white elephant. I am very frustrated and I don't know what to do. I don't want to quit because I feel like one of the few voices of reason, but when you are the only one, it gets disheartening.

I have more than once tried to get the gift that I contributed myself, because it was the only thing in the pool I had any interest in.

"But that's not the point Syrius." Is what I got hit with.
Making a plan that's not completely stupid isn't the point? (I like to eat! But even I wouldn't want to go from a pot-luck to a restaurant! That's head-shakingly...)

Okay, so the point is to go be social and drink? I don't really drink, in fact, half the office doesn't drink for various reasons. No to mention, I don't think Ubers go out to this place and even if they did, I wouldn't want to leave a car there.
I'm sorry.

I had this same problem when I was involved in roller derby. I met so many people in that community who I respected and would have liked to be better friends with. But the only social activity they ever wanted to do was get drunk.

I'm not a teetotaller. But I haven't been drunk since 1994. (And none of the derby peeps I was hoping to make friends with were as young as I was back then!) Also: I was always 100% sober at derby gatherings because I always had to drive home afterwards. (I have never and will never drink and drive. Not even one drink. I knew people in my youth who were killed by drunk drivers, and I knew a drunk driver who killed people.) Drunk people are not as entertaining as they think they are. And yeah: choosing "drinking" as your social activity when you know half the people in your group don't drink is thoughtless and inappropriate.

Today was a terrible, horrible, no good foot day. "But Syrius, you played snowball fight!" Yup, I did because step jacks don't make my foot hurt. It's just a little pressure, but it's okay. Walking is literally the worst. By the afternoon, I wanted to cry and I resorted to actually taking meds, trying to ice my foot with a half frozen ice pack, and using a can of sunscreen as a foot roller. In defense of the sunscreen can, it actually worked a lot. I think I'll take my rolly ball in with me tomorrow to use at my desk.

But I asked for help with my field work tomorrow. Just in case I have another day like today.

Tonight, I am almost walking around normally. Just going to wrap up my evening with foot stretches and a sleep meditation.

Resisting starting something new because I know that Secret Santa is about to drop off presents and I need to be able to do that. :grab: But I have picked out the programs I want to do for January. So, I am totally excited for that. I am planning on Hard Reset Cardio and Ten. Though Total Body Strength looks intriguing. Just need to pick a challenge, and I think I'll be good to go!!

Went to the weight loss doctor today. M is doing good, he's down 10+ pounds. :wand: Me, I am not really seeing much change. I am not gaining, which is great, and I did have a loss of 1% of fat, so that's something. :puurke: But now, she wants me to start really tracking my calories so that I am more aware of what I am eating and how much. Which is fair. And to try going no gluten for a few weeks to see if that might be a factor. She thinks I might have a gluten intolerance. Might help with the bloating and constipation/diarrhea. But, I'm going to wait until after Christmas festivities to cut out the gluten and start counting. That is too much stress to be worrying about during the holidays.

❄️ Happy holidays Bees!! ❄️
