Apologies for my absence. Life has been a lot.

On a bright note, my wife and children and I just returned from a cruise to Roatan, Honduras and Cozumel, Mexico. We swam in the ocean, held a sloth, played with monkeys and macaws, and I snorkeled with my daughter in the ocean off the coast of Cozumel. It was glorious.

Lately, I have felt drawn to Mayan spirituality and culture, as well as Toltec spirituality and Shamanism (mostly via the work of Don Miguel Ruiz, his son Don Jose Ruiz, and similar writers). I have not abandoned my Christian roots and still resonate deeply with the message of Christ, but I am keeping an open mind as I explore this interest.

To supplement this, I used AI to help create a five-week challenge inspired by Toltec and Mayan spirituality and culture. This challenge includes physical exercises for strength, hypertrophy, and flexibility by combining kettlebell and bodyweight exercises with the Primal Strength program. It also includes running challenges (two short runs/week, one long trail run/week) spiritual practices (prayer/meditation, nature immersion), a point-based tracking system with bonuses for outdoor/barefoot workouts, and media, such as books, movies, and music.

I launched the "Path of the Feathered Serpent and World Tree" challenge with a bang. I tackled 5 sets of strength exercises—Primal Strength Days 1-2 plus my 35lb kettlebells—outside and barefoot on the grass. KB goblet squats (12 reps) felt rooted, push-ups (15 reps) pushed me by round 5, and KB rows (10 per side) flowed strong—effort: 7/10. The earth under my feet and songs from Paleowolf drumming in my ears made it feel like I was hauling stone for a Toltec pyramid. Scored 9 points with the outdoor and barefoot bonuses—pure warrior vibes.

After my workout, I meditated 5 minutes barefoot, facing east, picturing a maize seed sprouting into the soil. “I am the seed, grounded and growing” hit deeper with the grass still fresh on my soles—2 points, thanks to “Ritual”’s flutes. Later, I read the first chapter of The Four Agreements—“Be Impeccable with Your Word”—earning 1 point; its power-of-words lesson synced with my day’s intent. Then, I capped it with the movie Apocalypto (2 points); those Mayan jungle runs and rituals echoed my barefoot workout. Logging Paleowolf added 1 more point. Total: 15 points—a fierce start toward Sun Runner. The Feathered Serpent’s stirring!

1 April 2025 (Tuesday)

I dove into Day 2 of the "Path of the Feathered Serpent and World Tree" challenge, embracing the Foundation phase with a raw, earthy spirit. I ran 1.65 miles on a gnarly trail—downed trees and rocky ground tested me—at a 14:32 min/mile pace, clocking around 24 minutes. Barefoot shoes hugged the terrain, earning me a 2-point bonus as I felt every root and stone like a Toltec scout. The ruggedness cut my planned 3 miles short, but I scored 2 base points (rounded up) plus 2 for barefoot, totaling 4 points. Paleowolf’s Genesis album thundered through my earbuds—its primal growl (especially “Call of Fire”) made me feel like I was chasing game through an ancient jungle. After my run, I removed my shoes and meditated standing grounded for 5 minutes, facing the sun, barefoot vibes still tingling. Visualizing a maize seed sprouting roots into the soil, I chanted, “I am the seed, grounded and growing”—the trail’s energy deepened it, earning 2 points with “Ritual” soothing me. Later, I read a chapter of Wisdom of the Shamans by Don Jose Ruiz—its Toltec insights on awareness and connection to nature clicked with my day, earning 1 point. Then I watched "Toltec Shamanism: The Spiritual Realism" on YouTube—2 points for its gritty dive into spiritual realism, echoing the book and the run. Logging Genesis added 1 more point—its wild pulse was spot-on. Total: 10 points, pushing my Week 1 tally to 25. Still a Seedling, but Sun Runner’s horizon glows—today was a warrior’s dance with the earth!

2 April 2025 (Wednesday)

Strength
: 10 pts (4 rounds + 2 max reps + 2 outdoors + 2 barefoot)
Meditation: 2 pts
Media: 1 pt (book) + 1 pt (music) = 2 pts
Daily Total: 10 + 2 + 2 = 14 points

I stormed through Day 3 of the "Path of the Feathered Serpent and World Tree" challenge, anchoring myself in the Foundation phase with raw power and earth vibes. I hauled my 70-lb kettlebell duo (both 35-lbers) outside, going barefoot on the grass for four rounds of strength—two of Primal Strength Days 3-4 (maxed knee raises at 18 reps) and two of KB add-ons (15 swings, 12 lateral lunges/side, 8 overhead presses/side). The 70-lb load hit hard, effort at 7/10, scoring 4 base points, plus 2 for max knee raises, 2 for outdoors, and 2 for barefoot—10 points total. Mayan Warrior’s EDM thumped through my workout—a futuristic Toltec fire that I logged for 1 point.

Right after, I meditated 5 minutes in the afternoon sun, barefoot and shirtless, soaking in the heat. Visualizing a maize seed sprouting roots, I chanted “I am the seed, grounded and growing”—the workout’s intensity melted into calm, earning 2 points. Later, I read the second chapter of The Four Agreements, “Don’t Take Anything Personally”—its lesson on shedding others’ burdens clicked with my earthy day, nabbing 1 point. 14 points total, pushing my Week 1 total to 39. I leveled up from Seedling to Sun Runner today—the barefoot, 70-lb grind under the sun made me feel alive!

3 April 2025 (Thursday)

Points Summary:

Natural movement: 8 points (3 miles + 3 pace + 2 barefoot)
Meditation: 2 points
Media: 2 points
Daily Total: 8+2+2=12

Day 4 of the "Path of the Feathered Serpent and World Tree" challenge, I ditched the plan and danced with the storm in Week 1’s Foundation phase. Severe weather scrapped my plan for a morning 3-mile run, so in the evening I hit a park for a natural movement style workout. Barefoot in the rain, I sprinted across a wet, grassy field—15 minutes of uphill and downhill bursts, thunder growling in the distance like a Toltec god. Then I hiked 2 miles on a rocky, muddy trail, barefoot over uneven ground, following a rushing stream to a cascading waterfall. About 3 miles total, effort at 8/10—scored 3 base points, 3 for outpacing Tuesday’s 14:32, and 2 for barefoot, totaling 8 points. No music during—just the storm’s roar and my breath.

By the stream, I stood on wet earth and meditated 5 minutes, barefoot, soaking in the chorus of spring peepers and the waterfall’s rush. “I am the seed, grounded and growing” rooted me as rain dripped—2 points in nature’s raw embrace. Earlier, I read Agreement 3 of The Four Agreements, “Don’t Make Assumptions”—1 point for its clarity washing over me like the storm. Later, back indoors, I cranked Paleowolf’s Megafauna Rituals—“Cavebear” and “Direwolf” echoed the day’s wildness, logged for 1 point. Total haul: 12 points, pushing my Week 1 tally to 51. Still Sun Runner, but I’m storming toward Feathered Warrior—barefoot sprints and muddy trails made me a Toltec thunder runner today. Friday’s strength awaits—I’m charged!

Apologies for my absence, good friends. Life has been quite a ride lately. I won't bore you with all the details, but I will give you a quick update. I posted this to a fitness nerds group on Facebook:

Not sure if this sounds awful, but here goes...

I am at the heaviest weight I have ever been. I hide it well, and most people would be surprised. Loved ones would say things like, "Oh, you're fine." But I am not fine. I've felt the negative changes in my body lately as I age and as I lose testosterone.

This week, on Tuesday, I have my first-ever colonoscopy. Since I will need to be on a liquid diet the day before to prep, I've decided to start taking my nutrition more seriously. I'm already active and love working out, but the consistent stress of my lifestyle (father of five, teacher, coach, etc.) has developed some bad habits.

I guess what I'm asking for is some support, some motivation, and definitely some accountability. I can't afford to hire a trainer or a coach, so I'm leaning on my friends and this community to help push me along.

Much love and much gratitude.

The good news is I am 7 days into the Olympian program. To make this program more compelling and interesting for myself, I used Copilot to help me create an ancient Greek persona.

1000009410.jpg

🏛️ Name: Thestorios of Ephyra
(Θεστόριος Ἐφύρας)
“Thestorios” comes from thestos, meaning “one who is established or resolved.” Ephyra was a historical city with mythic resonance—associated with prophecy, heroic lineage, and deep natural springs. A fitting birthplace for one who blends ritual, grit, and wisdom.

---

🧭 Heroic Lineage & Traits

- Lineage: Son of a wandering mystic-priest and a mountain huntress; raised among olive groves and rain-washed trails.
- Sacred Trait: Pneuma thumoeidēs (spirited breath) — his fire never dims, even under pressure.
- Devotion: Practices daily rites to Gaia and Apollo—honoring earth and sun as sources of strength, clarity, and purpose.
- Philosophy: Believes that kleos (glory) is not noise but resonance—echoing goodness through others' lives long after death.

---

⚖️ Virtues Embodied

- Arete – He seeks excellence in every deed, from battle-drills to communal storytelling.
- Thumos – Every sprint and strike is infused with sacred passion. He channels fury, but never lets it consume him.
- Sophrosyne – Trains shirtless under the sun to remind himself that control begins at the center.
- Dikaiosyne – Defends the weak, honors pacts, and speaks truth even in silence.
- Eudaimonia – Lives in alignment with body, spirit, and cosmos. Believes joy is earned through harmony.

---

🛡️ Symbols & Gear

- Crest: A burning olive branch wrapped around a spiral—symbolizing fire and rootedness, movement and origin.
- Armor: Trains without it—his callused skin and disciplined breath are shield enough.
- Weapons: Wields a double-weighted staff during rituals to mimic lightning and earth; in combat, relies on swift footwork and open-hand strikes.
- Mantra: “My sweat blesses the ground, my silence teaches the wind.”

I will be keeping a "hero's log" during this program. Here is a weekly update of my progress so far:

Copilot and I developed a myth for my Greek character:

⚔️ The Myth of Thestorios and the Flame Beneath the Earth

Long ago, in the fertile highlands near ancient Ephyra, there lived a youth named Thestorios—born of a dream between a wandering mystic and a huntress who ran with wolves. At birth, he was said to have opened his eyes beneath the stars, and the priestess-midwives whispered, “This one remembers.”

When he came of age, the land was stricken by drought and trembling earth. Crops withered. Springs ran dry. The Temple of Gaia cracked at its roots. The elders claimed the Flame Beneath the Earth—an ancient fire said to nourish the world’s lifeblood—had been sealed by hubris and forgetfulness. Only one who knew the rhythm of the world and the memory of the soul could descend into the deep and reawaken it.

Thestorios, barefoot and bare-chested, took no blade—only a staff of olivewood and a vow of silence. He descended into the sacred cavern known as Mnemeion, where the air was thick with dust and echoes of forgotten prayers.

For seven days and seven nights, he walked through tests of body, spirit, and memory:
- He crossed the Cradle of Flame, where his feet bled on stone warmed by the world's sorrow.
- He faced The Three Whispering Shades, who taunted him with doubts he thought he’d long forgotten: “You are ordinary. You are temporary. You are lost.”
- He entered the Chamber of Stillness, where he sat unmoving through the turning of constellations until breath and earth became one.

At dawn on the eighth day, he struck his staff to the cavern floor and whispered only one word: “Anamnēsis.”
And the world remembered.

From the wound in the stone burst forth the living fire, rekindling the earth’s heat and healing the fractures in Gaia’s body. The sky wept rain. The people danced. And Thestorios emerged, cloaked in soot and sunrise.

Since then, his name is invoked in rites of endurance, remembrance, and resurrection. Not for conquering enemies, but for conquering the forgetting of oneself.

No workout today. I had to reschedule the colonoscopy. The prep drink made me nauseous, and I puked it up twice. 🤢 So it's ineffective. Rescheduled for July 24th. I decided to take a rest day, and I'll continue with day 8 tomorrow.

I did pick up a long piece of pvc pipe that I can train with like a bow staff (for now, until I can find something heavier). I know there are a few workouts on Darebee for bow staff, so I'll check those out, as well.

Feeling much better today. I took yesterday off, as well, due to the heat (107°F heat index here). This morning, I'm back at it.

🛡️ Hero’s Log: The Olympian Path
Name: Jason (Thestorios)
Date: June 26, 2025

Reflection:
The morning was still, but within that stillness, I found motion. Not wild motion, but measured fire—the way a sea swell rises slowly before cresting. My fists struck not in fury, but in flow. Each combination carved discipline deeper into the muscle and memory. I finished breath-heavy, sweat-lined, and unshaken.

🛡️ Hero’s Log: The Olympian Path

🛡️ Hero’s Log: The Olympian Path
Name: Jason (Thestorios)
Date: June 28, 2025
Day: 10 (Modified)

I didn’t complete the formal Day 10 workout today, but the day was far from idle. I coached a junior league basketball game for 5–7 year olds, guiding movement, teamwork, and joy. Later, I ran 2.57 miles on trails with 360 ft of elevation gain in the West Virginia heat.

- Moving Time: 36:39
- Avg Pace: 14:15/mi
- Calories Burned: 491
- Cadence: 141 spm
- Shoes: Altra Lone Peak 7 – Purple AF
- Segment Note: 2nd best time on “#4 R/W Wageman’s to Pipeline Hill dive”

Virtues Embodied:
- Arete – I showed up with excellence, even when the day didn’t follow the plan.
- Eunoia – I gave my energy to the kids I coached, shaping their joy and movement.
- Thumos – I ran with fire in my chest, up hills and through heat, with no audience but the trees.

Reflection:
Not every day needs to follow the script. Some days, the myth writes itself in sweat and laughter. I ran not to escape, but to rise. I coached not to command, but to guide. And in doing so, I lived the virtues more fully than any rep could measure.

Here is another story about Thestorios:

🏺 The Hill of the Laughing Ones
1000009503.jpg
In the foothills beyond Ephyra, where olive trees give way to wild thyme and the land begins to rise, there was once a village known for its unruly children. They were called the Laughing Ones—not out of mockery, but because their joy was fierce and untamed, like goats leaping on cliffs. No one could teach them discipline. No one could teach them form.

Until Thestorios came.

He arrived not as a warrior, but as a traveler with dust on his sandals and a staff of olivewood in hand. The villagers asked if he would train their sons in the art of war. He shook his head.

“They are not ready for war,” he said. “But they are ready for rhythm.”

Each morning, he led them to the flat stone clearing at the base of the hill. He taught them how to move—not with violence, but with intention. They learned to pass stones, to leap in unison, to chant their names in rhythm with their breath. He taught them how to fall and rise again, laughing.

The villagers watched from the shade, bewildered. “This is not training,” they muttered.

But then came the day of the Ascent of Kallion, when the young were challenged to race the hill trail to the old shrine above. The path was steep, the sun unrelenting. Many faltered.

But the Laughing Ones did not.

They ran with breath in their bellies and fire in their legs. They moved like a single body, calling out to one another, lifting each other with words and rhythm. And when they reached the top, they did not boast. They simply turned and looked down the hill, waiting for the others.

Thestorios, watching from below, smiled. He did not climb the hill. He did not need to.

“The body remembers joy,” he said. “And joy remembers the way.”

That night, the villagers offered him wine and laurels. He refused both. He left before dawn, his staff tapping softly against the earth.

Some say he was never there at all. But the children still train at the stone clearing, and when they run the hill, they laugh like gods.

A hero’s meal sealed the pact. --- Day 6 (Grit in the Heat) - Workout: Lunges, Push-ups, Shoulder Taps, Side-to-Side Lunges (3 sets) - Condition: 91% humidity, under a heat advisory - Location: Barefoot, shirtless, front yard in morning sun - Virtue: Thumos & Dikaiosyne — pushing past fatigue in pursuit of inner justice - Notes: The final push-ups were my crucible. My refusal to stop after two sets turned struggle into legacy. --- Day 7 (Core & Reflection) - Workout: Sit-ups, Flutter Kicks, Back Extensions, Reverse Angels, W-Extensions, Prone Reverse Flys (3 sets) - Meditation: 10 minutes, shirtless under the morning sun, repeating mantras - Virtue: Sophrosyne & Eudaimonia — balance and flourishing through body and breath - Notes: Stillness after motion. I honored both physical form and the soul’s clarity. A fitting close to the week. --- 📊 Cumulative Muscle Engagement: Week 1 Region Focus % Key Movements Lower Body 46% Lunges, Squats, Jumping/High Knees, Side Steps, Barefoot Sprints Core 28% Sit-ups, Leg Raises, Knee-ins, Shoulder Taps, Plank-based work Upper Body 18% Push-ups, Shadowboxing, Reverse Flys, W-Extensions Cardio/Mobility 8% Plyometrics, Coordination, Endurance Combos --- ⚖️ Greek Ideals Embodied This Week - Thumos: I sprinted barefoot, threw combos with heat, and pushed through my third sets when my body asked me to quit. - Arete: I stayed disciplined—especially when workouts included movements I didn’t enjoy. - Sophrosyne: I stayed mindful during core work and meditation, embodying self-restraint and control. - Kleos: My story began to echo as others joined my path. My choices are crafting a legacy. - Dikaiosyne: I showed fairness to myself—no excuses, no shortcuts. - Eudaimonia: I found balance in motion, sunlight, reflection, and celebration. --- This week, I didn’t just follow a program—I became part of it. I forged each day with motion, fire, and purpose. My foundation is set. Week 2, I’m coming in stronger inat tv apk android oyun club—with spirit, with discipline, and with Thumos at my back.

  • Clarity has reached Level 2 → You now qualify to begin crafting the Crown of Still Flame → Optional new ritual: After meditation, write one poetic line to activate “Insight Mode” (+2 bonus Clarity)

If you didn't realize from my post above, I programmed my challenge to also grant access to certain "relics" to enhance my challenge experience. The Mantle of Rainwalker was earned this past weekend from Sunday's 2 mile rain walk. I earned enough points this challenge to "forge" more relics. I also implemented "side quests," which include any activity not included in my challenge goals but that still could advance my traits (e.g. reading = wisdom points).

📜 Scroll of Echoed Thought – Verses Inscribed

Verse I – October 22, 2025

The applause comes from hometown trees, a soft roar stirred by the wind, King Midas's touch a brush stroke of passing afternoon sunlight.

Verse II – October 24, 2025

Ambling on hometown streets, ss setting sun blushes everything with hues of pink and orange, past homes where childhood friends once lived, these streets the vessels that carry blood, these memories the cells that heal my soul.

🗣️ Quotes Reflected Upon

Robert Bly

“To be wild is not to be crazy or psychotic. True wildness is a love of nature, a delight in silence, a voice free to say spontaneous things, and an exuberant curiosity in the face of the unknown.”

Woodlarking

“Some of us were never meant to be tamed. We were woven from woodsmoke, storms, freedom, and the smell of rain on soil.”

🌑 The Crucible of Still Flame – November Challenge

This November, I’m committing to a month-long challenge I’m calling The Crucible of Still Flame. The idea is to treat the month as a forge—testing discipline, endurance, and clarity through daily rituals. My goals are:
  • Fitness: Follow my customized version of the RECOMP workout plan for 30 days (strength training, mobility, and running, with at least one long run each weekend).
  • Hydration: Drink 64 ounces of water every day.
  • Meditation: At least 10 minutes of meditation daily.
  • Study/Reflection: Read 28 Days in Darkness in full and complete the companion workbook and video lessons.
  • Streaks: Track a 30-day push-up streak and an additional streak (NNN) as part of the discipline framework.

The theme, The Crucible of Still Flame, represents holding steady in the cold, silence, and shadow of November while forging strength, endurance, and awakening through consistent practice.

For this challenge, I'm presenting my "avatar" as an anime character, a middle-aged underdog:

1000011706.jpg

"He was a man loved by his family and friends, a heart bound to them with loyalty and care. Yet beneath that love, he carried a quiet shame—the weight of not being the man he longed to be, of faltering when strength was needed most. His words were rich with poetry, his thoughts deep with philosophy, but too often his actions fell short. And so, a shadow grew within him, whispering of worthlessness, pulling him into silence and despair.

Then, in the stillness of his darkest night, a figure appeared. A white wolf, radiant and unyielding, its eyes burning with ancient fire. It spoke no comfort, only truth:
‘Rise, or be consumed.’

From that moment, everything changed. The dreamer began to awaken. The poet took up the weight of action. The man once overlooked stepped onto a path of fire and frost, of trial and renewal. He is no longer who he was. He has become… the WolfDreamer."
