December Fit day #6

Arms of Steel (seated) day #17

Destress & easy cardio day #28

No ab challenges, I kind of... got pretty tired and just didn't do it, it was a long day

Daily dare #42

Streaks
Meditation, 6d
Reading, 1m4d
Bearable, 6d
Cashew, 6d (one refund entry from last week I still haven't input though)
Duo, 39d (so many streak savers though)

I had to get up really early to be at work by 8 AM. I went to bed early the night before, but when I left the door closed the cat meowed and if I left the door open I couldn't sleep because the noise upstairs was so loud. Eventually I solved the problem by bringing the cat's stuff into my room and closing the door. She stopped meowing and I slept fine and only woke up a half hour before my alarm. I wasn't exhausted at work yesterday, but today I came home in the afternoon and lay down for an hour and a half because the 5:40 AM wakeup yesterday morning finally got to me. It's often the next day that I feel the sleep deprivation catching up to me.

I don't know if the cat really likes hanging out with me or if she thinks it's her room and she's being nice by letting me share it with her. She's a cat. She's hard to read.

It's her room. Everything's hers, including you. But she must like you if she's letting you hang with her.

December resolution: no starting any new challenges or programs. Just progress through the ones I've already started. If all goes well, I'll accumulate about a dozen more badges before the year is over. (I have six badges I'm real close to already.)

That's a good way of putting it :tears: you should hear her meow when I take down a bag of cat treats like she's worried I might eat some by accident ---

December Fit day #7

30 days of yoga day #2 (messed up a bit? I think? And it was enjoyable enough to warrant trying it again tomorrow)

1.55m plank + easy abs day #13

One & done & touch your toes day #3

Destress & easy cardio day #30

:completed:

After work I went to Walmart and picked up some new yoga mats because I put the cat litter box on the old one, saving the floor from getting leaked on but ruining the mat. I don't know if that was stupid or smart. Since I couldn't decide between Avengers or Princesses and the mats were dirt cheap anyway I just got two for indoors and one for outdoors. The one I was using was super thin and I got one replacement thin one for standing workouts but also a couple plushy and bouncy mats for high impact or floor exercises. They're a lot more fun and comfortable and I wish I'd upgraded to a thicker mat earlier. They're child sized and smaller, but I am child sized so that's an advantage.

Well because it's a Thursday, which is when friends of mine (and sometimes me) stream on Twitch, you get 10 squats =D
Int heir channel you can redeem channel points to make them do squats.
They complain about it so much but they're also so much better at them now :p

Congrats on the 100 days, and on your badges :fireworks:

Thanks everyone for the presents!!!

@Maegaranthelas Thanks for the squats!!! A nice start, I've got squats down 😆

@Laura Rainbow Dragon thanks for the glute bridges!!! I've done these once or twice but haven't in a while... I have room to improve but it was a good start!

@Syrius I've done lunges and arches but never the two together... it was cool! Again not sure if I did it right but I'm sure I'll improve with practice!

@aku-chan crunches are another exercise I've got down! It was cool seeing how much I've improved since I started ---

And finally ...

@Mamatigerj that 1,000 calf raises challenge well prepared me for this one!

Thanks everyone! Sorry for the delay and quiet, December is proving to be just as hectic as I thought it would be. I've still got that streak going, I've fallen behind in my updates but I'll catch up once I'm out of the cold (too cold to keep typing 😭)

December Fit day #11, #12

Foundation day #26

One & done & touch your toes day #7 - 8

Easy abs day #15 & 16

30 days of yoga day #4

Sort of mention a (long distance, platonic) abusive relationship I just left, so censored

I'm sorry for the conciseness, it's been a bit of a difficult time. Hectic, work heavy, and I've been grieving the loss of a friendship. My best friend of eight years began thinking gaslighting and abuse was funny and entertaining. The last time I remember her being nice to me was when she thought her ghosting a phone call, sending a passive aggressive text, and subsequent three day silent treatment had successfully convinced me to do something I'd told her I wouldn't. When I told her I still wouldn't she became bitter and passive aggressive again until I'd had enough and finally told her I was done. The whole time she was trying to break me I was barely bothered, but the day after I blocked her I finally cried, for the first and last time. I could forgive almost anything, believe almost anything, but I'll never forgive the sweet girl I met in a bookshop eight years ago for turning into a sadistic stranger I no longer love or recognize.

Luckily the rest of my friends are supportive and didn't question me when I told them what was going on with her. They immediately advised me to block her, and I don't let other people make such decisions, but this time I knew they were right.

Now onto Sunday's workout ---

Gaslighting, ghosting, manipulating, controlling - all those behaviours that we see but convince ourselves that we don't because this is XX, and XX would never do that to us, right? And then finally we have to wake up and take charge of ourselves again. I am glad that you have others to support you, and I sympathise for your loss of a friendship.

Okay so this is long overdue but thank you everyone!!! I really appreciate all your support :thankyou: :thankyou: :thankyou:

So I roleplay a lot, and when I first started I quickly realized that there's always that one player in a group who will only play abusive characters. Instead of leaving the group (I had friends!) I developed some strategies to recognize, avoid and/or de-escalate it (including an in-game restraining order at one point). Now sometimes in real life I think... if this conversation were a roleplay I'd shut it down in a hot minute, and I'm beyond bewildered why someone would playact being abusive out of character, like I get a game is a game and no harm done but... is it really that much fun it's worth wrecking a relationship in real life? (It's not as easy to shut it down in real life... but well, at least I've gotten somewhat better at not falling for it or into it.) So thankfully I've really been... totally okay. I mean, not recommended to seek out toxic roleplays deliberately, but when you roleplay often for leisure it's somewhat inevitable that there will be "situations" to manage.

Um when I say "okay"... I'm really okay, I just tried a new ADHD med, and was thoroughly reminded that my body cannot handle the side effects. So I'll just leave this as a mostly-funny-stories post, do the streak count, and then resume more detailed tracking hopefully tomorrow when I'm feeling a little better.

***

Story one: I take down my yoga mat. Cat begins chirruping angrily. I don't know what she wants, but I know she loves to bump into me when I do yoga. So I started to pretend to do yoga to see what would happen - sure enough, she waits a few seconds and then begins winding around me, happy as a kitten. It was like drinking a happiness potion, it was so ridiculously funny that she knew what yoga was, wanted me to do it, and couldn't brush or bump into me unless yoga was happening. It's like yoga is a cat magnet. (Cardio is the polar opposite - she sits as far as possible, stares at me, and backs away if I approach her.)

Story two: A kid in my store proudly informed me he'd noticed something, and when I asked what: "I noticed that... when you buy something... THEN YOU HAVE LESS MONEY!" like he'd just invented physics or something. I told him he should be an accountant and spent the entire rest of the shift trying not to die of laughter.

Really hoping that with the not-for-me meds out of my system and a good night's sleep, I'll be back to normal. I might do a few days of the Recovery program if I'm still under the weather and need something easier to keep up the streak but we'll see.

December Fit day #15

Foundation light day #27

One & done & touch your toes day #10

100 wall pushups for the ornament event

I restocked on pride accessories!!! I'd stopped wearing wash-off pride tattoos because of winter and long sleeves... but then I remembered the glow in the dark ones I didn't get earlier because what's the point if no one else can see the glow? So it seemed like a good plan, glowy in winter and glittery in summer.

And they're sooooooooo beautiful, it's bright like an electric light. Scary bright almost 😅

December Fit day #16

Foundation day #28

One & done & touch your toes day #11

100 more wall pushups... and my first ever Christmas ornament, virtual or otherwise

There were years I wanted to participate but didn't because I wasn't up to completing the reps, and now here we are.

Some jumps (with one of those jump rope handles that have weights instead of a rope, best I can do in my small space).

Oh and I kept forgetting to report that I've finally finished the gratitude & victories challenges. A while ago, now I have ten beautiful challenge badges.

One & done & touch your toes day #13

Snowballs dodged: 4

Snowballs thrown: 8

I'll dodge all the rest that have been sent whirling in my direction when I get home from work today! Promise!!!

I bought the 100 Challenges book two years ago... I've been having a hard time remembering to color in all the completed squares but then I remembered the existence of STICKERS! Waaaaaaay more fun to cross them off that way. It'll take 3,000 stickers and as many days but I am well up to the challenge.

I'd already taken my pre-bed medication and was in pjs when I remembered I hadn't done a workout yet. I got out of bed and did December Fit day #21 real quick. Cheated slightly by skipping sets and just doing 100 of each exercise straight (technically the same number of reps total, but helps my exhausted ADHD brain not to have to keep track of sets and not having to shift gears so many times).

So I did it. And good news, I was still in bed by 9:00 PM, fell asleep almost instantly, and more or less stayed asleep until 8:00 AM after which I just got up and felt muchly refreshed. I'm hoping if I can be in bed by 9:00 PM every day for the next week I might be a little less half-dead.

@Maegaranthelas thank you!!! Thankfully I got to "sleep in" today and feel soooooooo much better.

Okay this is random but like... Sometimes I have conversations with people about numbers or space that don't make sense to me. Like I tell people I can't read analogue clocks and they'll say "didn't you learn how in school?" and I'm wildly confused because of course I did but that doesn't help the numbers stay where they should or make counterclockwise and clockwise go in the right direction? Or I'll say my sense of direction is bad and they'll be like "it'll work itself out when you start driving" and I'm wildly confused how a license is going to make buildings and locations stay where I last put them instead of feeling like space itself is moving around all over the place and nothing is where it should be?

Anyway I was casually and thoughtlessly telling a friend that when I was at work yesterday I kept jumbling the total price when I say it to customers, like 163 becomes 136 and so on, the sort of thing anyone would frequently do I thought, and she was like "do you have dyscalculia?" and I was like "oh I don't know I never had a psych-ed assessment" and then I looked it up and all the puzzling pieces fell into place, why numbers and spaces are never quite where they should be and why no one understands - I'm thirty years old and I NEVER once realized that numbers and locations don't scatter and vanish like crazed chipmunks in most people's brains.

I'm still having a hard time seriously believing that some people can do mental math without spending 100% of their energy trying to keep all the numbers where they should be, like aren't numbers just tricky and slippery that way? Anyway now I think I sort of understand why no one else has ever been able to understand why I can't read clocks or navigate space or calculate time differences accurately... although why they didn't believe me when I tried to explain it was quite clearly a disability I didn't yet have a name for is a whole other story.

Anyway. I love that flash of insight when you suddenly realize the frustration and miscommunication and getting lost and mixing up times and dates and getting numbers jumbled is just that your brain has a known and named miswiring. And it's deal-with-able.

Ooh, congrats on finally having a name for a thing! Unfortunately a lot of people just don't get disability in the slightest, they are so narrow-minded and take their own experience of the world as the norm. Everyone experiences the world differently!
I don't have dyscalculia, but we moved around the world a few times when I was little, and my brain just gave up on acquiring locations for the longest time xD it makes sense, it had been trained that it wasn't going to be relevant info anyway so you might as well instantly forget it.

Oh darn lots of days. It's been exhausting and hectic and I just... couldn't.

Anyways, as best as I can reconstruct the past week:

Saturday, December 21st, 2024 - Tuesday, December 24th, 2024

Dec Fit Day #22, #23, and #24 skipped through a Hall Pass. I just decided... whatever. I have exactly enough days for each hall pass, I'm tired, exhausted, whatever, let's skip em.

I did Foundation Day #30 and Foundation Light Day #30. I got to be the first person ever to check off both "done" boxes! That makes me awesome and cool!

Yesterday I did a Hall Pass AND the Recovery yoga workout. I've just been super gentle about allowing shorter and easier workouts to extend the streak, and very strict that AT LEAST a light workout must be done.

In other news:

I checked with every single immediate family member, as I was very curious to know if it was possible for numbers to sit still. I'd always assumed they jumped for everyone. The computer scientist, the bioengineer, and occupational-therapist-in-training with severe ADHD were confused what I meant by numbers jumping. Well, the ADHD sister not confused so much, though she doesn't experience it herself. The elementary school teacher and the daycare teacher were confused by what I meant by visualizing numbers. The mechanical engineer, the freelance illustrator, and computer programmer likely have dyscalculia as well as they struggle with mental math, driving, directions, and so on. So it turns out as @TopNotch phrased it so well, there are various wirings when it comes to mental math, some default, some alternative and less common. Numbers can sit still, they can move and dance about, or they might not exist mentally at all. And at least half of my siblings/parents have dyscalculia or at least some of the symptoms, which in my opinion confirms the diagnosis without spending a couple grand on a full length assessment.

Also, apparently dyscalculia does not in any way prevent one from designing vehicles and medical equipment... but stable mental numbers does make it somewhat easier and engineers with dyscalculia must indeed have a ridiculous amount of resourcefulness and patience.

Best of all, when I spoke to my brother with kids to tell him to look out for math difficulties in his small ones starting school, he reassured me that he was having his little ones assessed as appropriate and that the ones who needed it were getting extra help in school. The thought that my siblings and I are passing along the alternative wirings we inherited but not the judgement or shame for being different was all that really mattered to me. Every sibling of mine now knows what to look for when their kids are in school.

Day #117 - #120

OMG! IT'S BEEN FOUR MONTHS! THIS IS WILD!!!
