Pretty sure I did something else today but I can't remember.

Ah, the best laid plans! A certain naughty little cat did something rather naughty on a patch of my unsealed concrete and she should be hanging her head in shame! But that meant I had to wait for it to dry (yes, and grossly soak into my concrete...) and then I'll have to scrub it, though it will leave a mark. Fortunately, it will be under the mat that goes under Marcy. Consequently, I didn't do the floors today and the patch of floor that my fridge will sit on gets another 24 hours in which to cure. I guess that's the silver lining in the cloud...

When I think back on all I used to do - the multiple challenges (yeah, I know three is a multiple but a very small one!), plus a programme, maybe with an add-on, the two to five nights of training each week, the regular walks and hikes - it quite exhausts me! But seriously, I'd like to get back to that. I think the work that has been done on the house really threw things off, and then knowing I had to do the floors (all done now! I wait a week before I can move the gym equipment out of my lounge, and then - maybe I'll go shopping for a chair!). There are still things that need to be done (always, I imagine!) but I need to get myself more regular again in the world of movement.

As I was doing the last coat on the floor this afternoon, a brain cell fired and I pulled the bag of cat biscuits out of the cupboard before I did the kitchen floor. Of course, if two brain cells had fired they might have said something like, how about getting her usual wet food that she has for dinner out of the fridge now that is available again? But only one fired so she got biscuits for dinner. That brain cell was obviously of low capacity because it didn't say, hey, how about getting some food for TN at the same time, since we can't step on this floor for at least two hours and it's not so far from dinner time now? After I'd fed the beasties I realised that I hadn't eaten anything yet today. No wonder I was feeling hungry! I really need to go shopping... But it was another hour before I could tiptoe in and grab a tin of mackeral from the cupboard. It's recommended not to stand in any one spot for very long, so no standing in front of the stove cooking for a while. I'll shop tomorrow. Get some bread. But from this day forth, the amount of dust I should experience in my house should drop by about 50% and I'm very pleased about that!

I woke this morning full of anticipation, but this evening my balloon was burst. Battleground begins on the 25th NOT the 23rd!! But I'm getting ready to unleash the beast!

Finally kicked myself out to the shops today. I went really low-tech and before I left the house, it felt kind of scary. You see, I left my phone behind. Ah, but what if my car breaks down and I need to call someone? my brain yelled at me. I said quietly and calmly, has my car ever broken down? And I'm sure theres a public phone somewhere or someone will lend me theirs. Plus, home is only about 2km away, so at a pinch, I could just walk home and call from there. I didn't play music in my car because normally it comes from my phone though I have a CD player and loads of CDs. I decided to be quiet today. My driver's licence and keycard went back into my wallet which went into my back pocket, and my pocket watch went into the front watch pocket. And you know what happened?
Absolutely nothing.
Almost disappointing, but it showed me that I don't need to have my phone on me at all times. I don't use it much as it is, but it's become a bit of a safety blanket, I suppose. I felt somewhat rebellious, with my wallet containing physical cards, and my old pocket watch - nothing electronic on me. The Luddites have named me king!

Heat wave coming in. Going up into the 40s next week. Hot weather feels worse away from sea level. It's to do with the fact that the air is a little thinner and much drier, as well as the increased UV radiation. Fortunately, we don't go into the 40s much up here. Common where I was as a kid. We didn't get 'snow days', we got 'heat days' because none of the classrooms at my primary schools, and only one building of my second high school had airconditioners, so we were generally sent home at 2, rather than 3:30. Probably annoyed our parents no end! And if the temperature was forecast to be over 36 degrees, we didn't have to do PE!!

Ah, now I know who's responsible! According to the First Law of Thermodynamics, the universe has a fixed amount of heat. Which means when Canada forgets to turn theirs on, it gets redirected to Australia as a heatwave.
And I refuse to entertain the opposite idea!

Today's smoothie was mango and pineapple. I never put in enough pineapple. :( Still tasted good, though. :)

Well, today did not go how I had planned it. But that's okay. School starts next week, so I thought I'd phone the Lad. I figured he'd be back from down the coast by now. I'd sent a text to his mobile but he hadn't responded. So I phoned this morning. And he told me all about his various Pokémon... We must have spoken for about 2 hours. I asked why he hadn't been around to see me since early June. He asked if he could come over today, which took me aback. I looked around. Today I could finally move my gym equipment out of the lounge and into the gym - the floor should have cured. The library (where he would sleep) was full to the gunwales with both stuff from the gym, and boxes of DVDs as I haven't yet put the DVD shelves back in the lounge. But I had done the dishes yesterday so I said sure; he could help me shift stuff. I said that he'd have to stay 2 nights because it was going to be stinking hot again tomorrow and I wasn't going out in the car, so that's what he'll do.
When he got here, we had lunch and started going through his book showing 800 (!) Pokémon. After a while, I said we really had to get that room cleared, so we replaced the gym mats and moved everything out of that room, or put it against the bookshelves so there was plenty of room for the folding bed, and then he was all set up. We moved and rebuilt the squat rack, and then everyone (except me) had a rest.
20260130_212801.jpg

He then wanted to get on to Marcy, so I dragged her from the lounge and together we positioned her nicely. We rebuilt most of her then stopped for dinner (Kransky sausages and crinkle-cut chips. Crinkle-cut chips taste better than straight ones!), then did the last bit of Marcy. Back to the Pokémon until we reached the last page. :shoked: By then it was just after 9 so I sent him off to bed.

The cat finally crawled into my lap - first time today! Creed has been in heaven. I've been pretty happy too - Pokémon not withstanding!

I got on the treadmill for my 20-min walk this morning, and the Lad went on the bike, then the elliptical, then Marcy, then the ab roller. He asked, "how much longer?" I replied, "Ten minutes." I had intended to start another couple of challenges but I didn't think he'd have the patience so that can wait another day. For breakfast I made something I called an omelet but it was more like a frittata. We had half for breakfast and the other half for lunch. He asked me to make it again tomorrow, so okay. He liked my dinner too, so that was good. So. Much. Pokémon!
We watched two of The Librarian movies which he quite enjoyed. This evening, we watched a large orange moon rise up in front of my lounge window. Once the sun was quite down, we went out and took photos, playing with the settings on our phones. This was my favourite:

Whoever thought there was so much to Pokémon?
Made my omelet/frittata (omeletatta?) again today, and that was breakfast, lunch, and afternoon tea. I dropped the Lad off at the Other House at 4 this afternoon. He took his stuff inside, then came out again and hugged me. And he was crying. I asked why but he didn't answer. I asked if it was because I didn't live there anymore, and he nodded. I told him he could live with me, and I'd drive him to his school, or that he could stay with me over school holidays instead of going down the coast, and he said he'd consider that, so we'll see. At least contact has been re-established and I hope he comes to stay with me more often. I like it when he's here. It seems very quiet now again.

Feeling absolutely exhausted today. Had a decent enough sleep, so cool dreams, but shortly after I was up and I'd done my walk, everything collapsed - arms and legs tired and sore. "The fatigue is strong in this one." It happens. Fortunately it doesn't happen too often. And I pushed through. I've been doing Wake Up! Mobility every day for - what, three months now? longer? so decided to try something new, hence the appearance of Come Alive today. I like that one. I'll stick with it for a bit.

Today was a much cooler day. I got the washing done and hung it up without risking being incinerated as soon as I stepped outside. As I could have the front door open (and having been reminded when I opened the door to let in the Lad on the weekend), I finally got around to repainting the front door. Two coats. My new gym mats arrived so I straightened them out then put them down. Hmm. When your mats are supposed to be 1m x 2m but are really 1.01m x 1.99m... :yell: You think that doesn't matter? Try making 3m x 2m by having two mats going down and one across. That across mat doesn't reach all the way across! I did the best I could and it looks all right. The entirety of the end 4m depth of my gym is now covered, with the treadmill on its own mat just at the end. I was thinking of cutting the mats to make them fit (the space is 2.4m wide) then finally decided to overlap the mats instead. Makes for some pleasant softness underfoot in places!
Floors done, gym set up properly, front door painted. Even the washing done - though I didn't get it off the line. Things are coming together.

Rehab:
- Reverse step-ups 2 x 10es
- TKE 2 x 10es
- Glute bridge 2 x 10
- Side-lying hip abduction 2 x 10es

I really have to be more adult, really swallow down my ego and work on my rehab. For years I've been ignoring my structurally unsound knees, compensating with other parts of me and causing more issues that I then have to fix. I've done pretty well, all in all, but I don't want to consider what I'll be like when I'm 70 if I don't stop mucking around right now and work on strengthening and aligning and making things as good as I can get them. That means I have to do exercises that from the outside look unchallenging, basic. Easy. Done properly, deliberately, with focus, these exercises are actually not easy for me. Well, not all of them. Even those that are cause bits of me to fire up and that's exactly what I want. I can increase when I am actually up to increasing, not simply when I want to. So to that end, I'm going to try very hard indeed to do my rehab exercises every day. I want also to lift weights again, now that my gym is back to normal, so I looked through the programmes. All had (of course) squats and lunges, things I'm not really up to doing. I mean, I can do them, but as I'm compensating while doing them, I guess I'm not really doing them properly, so I'll not do them at all. I'll substitute exercises that are similar and I can do. This adulting thing is hard work! :p

I was so totally knackered yesterday that I slept through my alarm this morning and got up almost an hour later than usual! I must try to get an earlier night tonight.

Daily Walk Challenge Day 6 - and to work on the knee/quad rehab, I slowed down the belt, turned around, and walked backward for around 3 minutes at the end
50 Push-ups a day challenge Day 3 I still want to do push-ups every day but I think I need to look after my dodgy joints a bit better and not repeat the same stress quite so much. So rather than do a specific number each day, I'll just do some, and maybe I'll vary the type, depending on how I'm feeling. Therefore:
Push-ups
Push-Pull-Legs Day 1 - I did the chest press on Marcy

Rehab:
- Quad sets 3 x 10
- Reverse step-ups 2 x 10es
- TKE 3 x 10es
- Glute bridge 2 x 10
- Side-lying hip abduction 2 x 10es

This being Australia, we have pretty much the worst internet connectivity in the known world - okay, perhaps that's a slight exaggeration. I ought to have said, the developed world. Actually, even some less developed countries have better internet than us. :( Our internet runs on old copper phone lines, and most of us have fibre-to-the-node, rather than to the premises. Copper lines don't respond well to electrical noise, and every time I turn on my treadmill, my internet drops out. Annoying. And unfortunately, nothing I can do about it. Because the copper lines aren't stable, I lose my internet when it's windy, or humid, or thundering, or hot. Or just whenever. And definitely when I'm using my treadmill, which is a shame because I like to watch motivational videos sometimes when exercising. At least I can do it on the exercise bike.

I feel your pain when it comes to internet access. I live in rural Alberta, Canada and my only source of internet is my phone via hotspotting it to wherever I need it. We pay some of the highest rates in the world for data but something is still better than nothing. There are a couple of wifi tower providers in my area but they can only offer up to 10MB/s transfer, if you are lucky. I am not one of the lucky ones. We could probably commiserate together. LOL

Got a bit excited this morning while I was doing my rehab exercises. I saw a long-atrophied muscle twitch! A very quick, half-second twitch, but a twitch nonetheless! Rehab is boring - which is why I often tend to stop doing it too soon - but I have decided it's time to 'adult up' and so I am rehabbing conscientiously, and I won't change anything until I should. I'm going to see if that muscle twitches again tomorrow, and the day after, and the day after that, and then a few weeks (or months, I'll be realistic) perhaps I can make it twitch deliberately! That would be good. So that's what I'm working toward. I've cast aside that ego, and accepted that if I want this particular muscle to respond, I have to stop doing things that recruit the muscle around it, that compensate for it, and to that end I have to do 'light' exercises until that muscle says, oh right, you mean me?

The Lad called this evening. Three times, actually, but I was blending up cottage cheese with cocoa, vanilla and honey for dessert so missed the first two calls. He was excited because he's got a school camp week after next and wanted to talk to me about it. Well, it and Pokémon. For an hour and three-quarters! Lovely.

Push-Pull-Legs Day 4 - I have to adapt the leg days. So instead of lunges, I do weighted reverse step-ups. Still single-leg loading. Instead of squats, I do chair sits, making sure I'm slightly biased toward the weaker leg. Again, very similar movement, just not very low so the knee isn't so stressed. Calf raises and RDLs are fine. :)

I decided it was time for me to take more stuff to the charity shop, get it out of the library which is the only room left with carpet so I have to clear it to remove that carpet. Took everything out to the car. Got in the car. Started the car. Wait, no, I didn't. The darned thing wouldn't start! Battery. So for the first time in, oh, ever, I think, I had to call Roadside Assistance - even though the car was in my driveway. I went back inside because it was hot out. About 30 minutes later, Chris arrived. Seemed surprised that I still had the original battery after almost 9 years. Said I had a choice: either he could give me a jump or I could get a new battery. So I took the easier option - new battery. I mean, what would happen tomorrow? Or the next time I wanted to use the car. I had an old battery so I bit the bullet and stumped up for a new battery. Apparently they're only guaranteed for two years and expected to last for four, so getting about 9 out of mine was pretty good. That held me up a bit today and I ended up having to go out when it was hotter than I was hoping, but I got everything done - charity shop, supermarket (including getting large rubbish bags to stuff that carpet into). All good. :yaz:

Triceps still a bit sore after yesterday's workout but didn't affect my dips. I had an appointment at 8:30 this morning. I did receive the offer to move it to 9:30 but I decided to be an adult and stick with the earlier appointment. Besides, it wouldn't affect my day so much. And you know what - it didn't kill me!

After yesterday's rains (apparently there was flooding around where I used to live!), today's warmth made everything horribly humid and sticky. I hate humidity and it's fortunately not so common here, but today - almost as soon as I took a bottle of water from the fridge, it was dripping with condensation, and even my clothes felt damp when I put them on. I prefer a dry heat, but then again, I certainly appreciated the rain. Sounds like I'm one never to be satisfied!

Recently been deliberately tracking my protein intake. I generally guess at it, but for the last couple of days, I've actually been tracking it. And then I noticed that despite eating a heap and feeling stuffed, I'm below my kJ goal. So today, for example, I got 176g protein (without any protein powder) but only 7500kJ (about 1790 cal) which is below what I was aiming for. But I hit my protein - actually exceeded it somewhat - and I don't feel hungry so I am not going to give a tinker's toss about the kJ.

Calories are BS - focus on protein is the RIGHT way to go - been doing it since August last year. Protein intake will vary on your activity levels / muscle mass. I'm a tiny woman and I can wolf down 200g in a day easily if I wanted to! Typically I hang out in 110-120g/day for fat loss and 140g/day for maintenance, and I consider myself having medium activity levels.

I'm pleased with how adult I'm being. That's 9 straight days of rehab so far. Yay me! Am I better yet? Nope, not for months, really. Te reverse step-ups are killers. They really show how I've been favouring that bad knee and contributing to the weakness in that leg by allowing my other leg to bear most of the weight. My right leg is in a bit of shock right now, I think, not quite believing what I am putting it through. But the important thing is that there is no discomfort after I've done the exercises and I'm working hard on consistency.

Spent much of the morning trying to see if there was anything I could do about my really crappy internet but apparently it's "within parameters" - which doesn't mean it's working well, just that it's working no worse than it's allowed to. :( So that was a bit frustrating, but everything else I did today went well.

The chickens have stopped laying. It's an odd time for them to do that, and both together. They're not even moulting. The younger ones aren't online yet.

Either my big tree is dying because of lack of water or autumn is on the way. I'm hoping it's autumn. That's my favourite season. :)

Here I was thinking that the girls had unaccountably gone off the lay for the last week, and then I went into my garden shed. Those bloody little dinosaurs had been laying in there! Hoiked out a half-dozen eggs. Made sure they can't get back in there. Spot doesn't lay often but when she does, she kind of makes up for it. Rosie gives me eggs that are about 55g. Spot gives me eggs that are 78g. So I cut her a bit of slack.

Daily Dips Challenge Day 36
Destress challenge Day 23
Daily Walk Challenge Day 20
Push-Pull-Legs Day 14

Rehab:
- Quad sets 3 x 10
- TKE 3 x 10es
- Glute bridge 3 x 10
- Side-lying hip abduction 2 x 10
- Lying heel slides 2 x 10es
- Reverse step-ups 2 x 10es

The girls nicely laid in their nesting box today.
And because I'm in that sort of mood, I'll just say to those of you who think Spot has at least one spot - she doesn't. She's a black hen with red/brown beetling around her neck. Now someone is saying "What? But why....?!"

Was I rude? I never know if I'm rude or not. Except when I'm trying to be rude. I know definitely then! People confuse me.
No! I was enjoying playing along

Rehab:
- Quad sets 3 x 10
- TKE 3 x 10es
- Glute bridge 3 x 10
- Side-lying hip abduction 2 x 10
- Lying heel slides 2 x 10es
- Reverse step-ups 2 x 10es These are finally becoming - no, not easier. They still hurt and my leg still wobbles like a bowl of jelly, but perhaps I'm getting stronger because there is more control and perhaps a fraction less wobble. Been doing these rehabs exercises for almost three weeks now without a break. I am proud of myself. :tude:

And I finally did it. On Thursday when I went out, I popped into a shop and asked if they had any chairs with high backs. They had two. One was floor-stock, discontinued and discounted, and the other was - well, I had barely sat in it before I shot myself out of it! I liked the other one and without bothering to go to any other shops (because I hate shopping), I bought it. It was delivered today. Behold, Maggie! (Not a name I would have chosen for a line of furniture, but oh well):

And someone else was very pleased I finally had a chair because she got the Kloudsac:

And because it's been a while since I posted any nature photos, here was pre-dawn this morning:
