@astro_lizard @Anek @graoumia Thank you!! :tuzki-love:

Sunday, 3 August Wins: 286 days
Steps: 5,462/5,730
Main workout:
Slow grocery store walk (bum ankle, so I'm letting it count for something.)

The Miner 2 - did shoulder taps from my knees, but did full plank holds, which were not the smartest idea
> 15 knee pushups - I found 3 piles of dirt
Wall-Sit 2
10 jumping jacks, 10 squats, & 10 negative calf raises - let's not talk about how dumb doing jumping jacks was. Yeah.
Walk it Off lvl 3 + EC - I wanted some extra steps and since walking around the store was okay, I thought this would be alright too
IRONBORN 2 - 5 & 8 lbs
Ronin's Blade r2 7 - joined the underdogs - And this is where I pushed things a bit too far with my ankle today, because I take steps with my swings
P (Matty) - 10m Evening Stretch
Foot stretches - to include the new one the foot doc gave me

In the rotation:
Momentum 28 | Unbound r2 28 | Hard Reset Cardio 20 | Ronin's Blade r2 (6)8 | IRONBORN 3 | Core Strength 1 | Wall-Sit 3 | The Miner 3 [1 gem]

Boxes:
❎ M or HRC
☑️ Challenge
❎ 5.5k steps :sus: I missed it by 38 steps.
☑️ 10 squats, 10 jumping jacks, & 10 negative calf raises
Total: 2+2=4
**1** Combat workout
**0** Completed programs & challenges

As you can see, I pushed it a little today. It might not have been the best plan, but I'll see how I'm feeling in a bit when I fully cool down and I'll ice if necessary. Interestingly enough, I have been enjoying using a storage box under my desk as a leg rest. The major upside to this is that it forces me to sit further from the screen, which seems to help with my cyber sickness (motion sickness from playing video games). Downside, Erebus likes to steal it.

Steps: 6,203/5,680

> Oh, and I rescued the panda!!
Ronin's Blade r2 8 - slow butt kicks, but I felt pretty good while doing them

It was our admin's birthday today and someone brought in cake and it was a really nice gesture. But I had that twinge of (a) jealousy and sadness I'm probably not going to get the same treatment in two weeks (when it's my birthday) and (b) sadness that I can't have cake. There are few times that I miss having wheat, and cake for celebratory reasons is one of them. I feel a little petty for the jealousy, but it's how I feel and I am recognizing it for what it is.

Anyway, the rest of the day was pretty good. I didn't do a great job of keeping my opinions to myself, but maybe it was needed. (unrelated to the cake thing, just normal work annoyances) As for working out, I just got to it rather late and I decided to keep it to the challenges and possibly Ronin's Blade.

:drink: Stay hydrated and have a wonderful day!

if you don't eat wheat maybe you cook with other cereals? And bring a cake to work ? You will have plenty of cake here just for you for your birthday, you are important for all of us :tuzki-love:
 I haven't tried baking a gluten-free cake yet. Funny thing is that I do have to take the day before my birthday off work, so I totally could try. I think I might!

:bigcry::tuzki-agro-hug:Thank you graoumia!!! I was having a hard time framing it better and now I have a mission! :lovelots:

I have a 1:1 baking flour that I've used to bake cookies with that I think will do the job. I am debating trying an apple cinnamon crumb cake, which we can enjoy with our morning coffee or a chocolate cake. I kinda want to do a carrot cake, but I know that is not a popular flavor.

I am also debating using my D&D group as test subjects.

Thursday, 7 August Wins: 290 days

Total: 11+4=15

Yeah, that morning walk did not happen because it was just so gross outside this morning. And we do have a heat advisory in effect. It's okay. I'll split the meditation up over the day tomorrow. There's a morning meditation that I want to check out, so that'll probably get me half of the way there.

As for cake baking, I am definitely going to be experimenting on my D&D friends. I am going to do cupcakes so that M and I can try them tomorrow, before I do bring them all the way to the next town.

Lol, I thought I posted this last night. :haha: I'll post today's log separately.

:drink: Stay hydrated and have a wonderful day!

Story about making homemade cake:
The process was actually pretty easy, though this one was more watery than I expected. I was really glad that I had read the reviews before I started because I would have assumed that I did something wrong. I very carefully filled the cupcake fillers 3/4 of the way full, which is something that I only learned about in the course of looking into making cake myself. I popped them into the oven, used my phone to set the timer, and the realized that my D&D discord had a message - D&D is cancelled. So now I have 20 tasty chocolate cupcakes and no one to feed them to. Until I realized that I have an officer's meeting & scriptorium on Monday evening and that they will still be good at that point, so I'll bringing them then to share.

@graoumia I did! They were very tasty. I think next time I'll try making the icing as well.

Friday, 8 August Wins: 291 days

On this day, I got some chores done, baked cake, and had some serious DOMs. I took it easy.

Saturday, 9 August Wins: 292 days
Steps: 2,490/5,630
Main workout:
Wall-Sit 7, 8, & 9
The Miner 7 & 8
> 30 knee pushups - 4 more piles of dirt, an amethyst, and an emerald

I did not feel that great today. I woke up incredibly bloated and with a terrible headache. So, I took some meds for the headache and just tried to sleep it off. It mostly worked and I just did some challenges while M went to go get thai food for dinner. Yum! I do feel somewhat better now, though the bloat hasn't really gone away. I wonder if I had some gluten cross contamination.

Sunday, 10 August Wins: 293 days
Steps: 4,477/5,320 ***I might have actually made step goal today, but my watch needed a charge today.
Main workout:
Wall-Sit 10
Ronin's Blade r2 11 - I did slow butt kicks

SO MUCH COOKING. :tired:
But, I feel really good about the outcome. We have 10 meals prepared for the week for lunches and dinners (cottage pie & fajitas) and some chicken available for adding to some pasta. I also made an apple cake with a crumble topping as a treat for the week and because I wanted to try another type of cake. Let me just say, it is so good that I almost had a second piece. I also have all the overnight oat containers ready to just add the almond milk, which will make things easier in the evening. And even after all the cooking all day, I cooked dinner instead of letting M order out. :super:

Monday, 11 August Wins: 294 days
Steps: 6k+/5,160
Work moves:
P (Jess) - 20m Mindful Walk => Hard Reset Cardio 22 - This was supposed to be a meditating walk for Ronin's Blade, but Jess made it too much about listening to your breath mixed with walking to the music. I was not in zone, so to speak. And since this was a relatively light walk, I'll count it towards HRC22 instead of HRC21.
Main workout:
Wall-Sit 11
10 squats, 10 jumping jacks, & 10 negative calf raises

It was not a very good day. I had watched an episode of my show yesterday evening that contained a character that absolutely creeps me out and all I could think of was this character jumping out of impossible places to attack me. (For reference, I was watching Flash and the character is Ragdoll. I am so glad he is not a frequently reoccuring character.) I feel silly admitting that this is why I couldn't fall asleep, but it is. Thanks overactive brain.

Anyway, due to lack of sleep, I didn't feel great. I thought I would go for a mindful walk at the start of my shift. Well, it wasn't very mindful at all. I knew I should have taken one of the ones by the usual meditation peoples, but I thought I would give it a shot. Overall, I just was in a foul mood most of the day before I figured out that I had a headache. Left early, took some medicine, and chilled on the couch before heading out to my officer's meeting for my SCA group. Things were definitely better after that, although, I forgot to bring the cupcakes to share.

@Laura Rainbow Dragon I solemnly swear that I am up to no good. :hehehe: No, I really did forget. Thing is, I think that the store bought icing I used might have upset my system, so I am actually wary of the cupcakes, despite how delicious they are. M's not in any way upset that the cupcakes are still in the house and I'll be taking one down to my sister when I see her this weekend at my nephew's birthday party. I will be trying my hand at making icing when I make the next batch next week, which are the ones that will be going to work with me for my birthday!

Tuesday, 12 August Wins: 295 days
Steps: 5,590/5,360

Undone
The Miner 9 - pushups will be done below
Main workout:
Quick Warmup
Wall-Sit 12
10 squats, 10 jumping jacks, & 10 negative calf raises
Momentum 29 lvl 2 - left arch is hurting a bit, so I stopped at level 2
> 15 knee pushups - 2 piles of dirt and 1 worm
Super Abs 4&5
IRONBORN 5 - 8lb - subbed tricep pushups
Unbound r2 29

Today was definitely better, despite not getting quite enough sleep. I had much better attitude and energy, as my workout certainly reflects. I'm off to go hydrate, eat dinner and get a good night rest!! :carbs:

Wednesday, 13 August Wins: 296 days
Steps: 4,285/5,410
Work moves:
Left foot rolling for foot pain
Main workout:
Quick Warmup
10 squats, 10 jumping jacks, & 10 negative calf raises
Momentum 30 lvl 1 :completed: - for combo 2, I plank walked back, held for 6, plank walked out and held for 6 - because both this and combo 3 cause tension in my lower back, no matter how slow I go (which I did for the entirety of the program) and how much I tighten my core and glute on the combo 3 transition
Wall-Sit 13 - singing "All Star" very loudly and off key, but I held the whole thing no problem
Unbound r2 30 :completed:
Foot stretches

It was a bit of a day, but I felt in control of everything but the discomfort in my left arch. Sitting here, now after working out, it feels better than it has all day. Although, I am now feeling a bit of a twinge in my lower back. I don't think it's going to bother me in the morning.

=================

Program Review - Momentum:
It started out pretty easy and it built up as promised. But I didn't expect to find combos to be the thing that motivated me the least. I don't shy away from combat combos (I love me some jab+jab+punch), but I didn't like feeling like I was doing 3 times the work in a set because it was broken up in a combo. I don't know if I have developed a distaste for combos or if there was just something about these combos. Overall, it was a nice, challenging program (look ma, I did Level 1 and called it okay) but I am glad that I finally made it to the summit.

Congratulations on completing Momentum and on your second completion of Unbound!

Could be you are tightening your glutes too much. Engaged abs are good for supporting your lower back, but too much glute engagement can cause external hip rotation, which for some people causes unhappy compression in the lower back. (I personally don't feel this in my body. But multiple yoga teachers have sworn to me it's a thing. I suggest experimenting and seeing what works best for you.)

Many people have a tendency to try to get all of the bend in a backbend from the lower back. (That's the path of least resistance.) But this too can cause compression and unhappiness there. Try for a smooth curve, lifting your chest, and drawing your shoulder blades together and down. Engage your hamstrings but also your quadriceps. (It may be counterintuitive to engage the quads in a pose like up dog, where the hips are in extension. But you want some engagement there to prevent the pelvis from sagging.)

I'm not sure what's happening with your plank walk-outs. You have good endurance in a front plank, if I recall correctly. At what point in that 2nd combo are you feeling the tension?

Huh, I did not know over engaging my glutes could also be a problem, but I didn't feel any rotation in my hips. I was transitioning smoothly all the way into upward dog for the first set and half of the second and it was just feeling sticky when transitioning back out of it. After that, I only went to the kneeling pushup plank position and I didn't complete the rotation.

I think experimenting more with the transition is probably what I need to do. Thanks for the link, the Pocket Yoga dictionary is awesome.

I'm not sure what's happening with your plank walk-outs. You have good endurance in a front plank, if I recall correctly. At what point in that 2nd combo are you feeling the tension?
I feel like my plank work is pretty good. I certainly don't struggle with it as much any more. I can fully place my hands on the mat when touching my toes, so I do have contact with the ground on the entire movement. Going into the plank doesn't feel too bad, but it's when I am walking back that I feel the strain. Maybe I need to do some experimenting here as well? Maybe I'm bending my back weird or something.

Hmm... Okay. Not sure what is happening there. Forward folding can cause serious back injuries if done incorrectly repeatedly. The fact that you can put your palms on the ground in a standing forward fold suggests to me that you're someone who can do them easily and safely. And yet they're causing you grief. So yeah. Further experimentation to see what works best for you is a good idea.

I'm going to point you also to two additional resources:

1. This article: https://www.yogajournal.com/lifestyle/the-truth-about-forward-bends/ explains the potential issue caused by forward folds and some tips for doing them safely. I don't know the author of the article or what his background is. But his explanation jives with my own understanding. (I am a certified yoga instructor. I am not a medical professional.)

2. The Daily Bandha is an excellent resource for finding modern medical science-backed information regarding yoga poses. It's written by a yogi who is also a medical professional. (Ray is a board certified orthopedic surgeon.) Yoga instructors should be up front about what expertise we do and do not have. But not everyone is. I have many times, unfortunately, heard/seen yoga teachers say/write as if with authority things that were absolute bunk. But Ray I trust. If anyone out there teaching yoga today truly understands the anatomy of yoga poses, it's Ray. Here are some articles he's written specifically about forward folding: https://www.dailybandha.com/search?q=forward+bends

A third resource:

This article includes advice from a physical therapist re: pelvic tilt in backbends and specifically while transitioning into forward folds.
(Yoga International requires a subscription for full access to their content. But one can view a small # of articles, I think each month, for free. If you load the article, and it looks useful to you, I recommend saving a copy so you're not burning through your free reads to reload the same page another day.)

Saturday, 16 August Wins: 299 days
Steps: 5,735/4,580 - Okay, so there was a little weirdness going on. There is the possibility of lost steps due to my watch turning off because it was trying to conserve battery life while I was inactive (in the car), but there is also the possibility of added steps from driving. So, I am going to say it balanced out in the end.
Main workout:
P (Chelsea) - 5m Morning Meditation => 30 Days of Yoga 3
Quick Warmup
EoD - 40 elbow strikes
Hard Reset Cardio 20 lvl 1 - **COMBAT POINT** My feet are feeling achy, so I'm stopping at level 1 today

10 squats, 10 jumping jacks, & 10 negative calf raises - because I'm not skipping this point today

Early morning workout today, sneaking it in before going to the twin's birthday party. I may edit in some extra stuff later.

UPDATE - nothing extra, just went late night grocery shopping when we got back in town. A gift to ourselves in the form of one less thing to do tomorrow.

> P (Sam) - 5m Warm Up Ride
> P (Bradley) - 20m 2000s Ride
> P (Robin) - 5m Cool Down Ride
P (Camila) - 5m Post-Ride Stretch

I wasn't feeling up to too much, so I told myself to do one hard thing today. So, I rode the bike and it was exactly what I needed. I also think that Grocery-Shopping-Saturday evenings and Cook-a-thon Sundays are here to stay. We feel so much more productive and less bored with our lunches because now we have some choice about what we are going to eat today at lunch and tonight for dinner. It is a refreshing change of pace.

30 Days of Yoga 4

I almost didn't do more today, but I am glad that I did. It was a productive day at work, and overall, I feel like today was a good day.

Tuesday, 19 August Wins: 302 days
Allergy Shot (had allergist check in today, so I got my shot a little early this week)
Steps: 4,873/5,080

10 jumping jacks, 10 squats, & 10 negative calf raises
Wall-Sit 16
30 Days of Yoga 5
P (Matty) - 10m Evening Stretch
P (Kirra) - 10m Sleep Meditation

I baked all the cupcakes today for work. :pose: I took the day off since I had originally requested it off when I thought I was going to have multiple appointments today, but I only had the one. I am glad that I was able to get in my allergy shots early this week as well, but doc now wants me to take an antihistamine before I come to get shots. So, I'll be trying out Allegra next time, because I don't want to take brain-fog Zyrtec again if I don't have to.

In other news, I am super proud of M today. He also had an appointment today, but his was with the weight loss doc. On his way back to work, he stopped at the gym and did some research into getting a membership and a trainer. It looks like he'll have to commit to 3 months with the trainer and his sessions will be varied from 6pm to 8pm, but it is a step in the right direction. So, it looks like I'll be taking my workouts to the gym 3 days a week. Which is perfectly fine, I can use the machines and IRONBORN is easily gym compatible. I'll have to see what the floor work area is like since they did the expansion, because before there was nowhere to comfortably do plank work and I haven't been in since the expansion. So I might need to get creative with my challenges. But I'll figure it out and that will be okay. I've gotta support this guy in getting to the gym, since he's a master procrastinator and he doesn't want to do Darebee exercises. He doesn't even use the Peloton classes; he just goes for Just Rides. So the Peloton bike that we got for him is really more mine than his.

I am however back to my crazy idea of seeing if I can adapt running programs to biking programs.
