AM- woke up after 6:39am (PST) to gray sky and 21 (F)degrees feels like 13❄️☃️🥶😱. Boo was fussing in his bed in the night, so I get up to escort him downstairs to his water and the door. Canoe came along as well for a quick outside business excursion. We all went right back to bed and to sleep, thankfully.🥳

AM- woke up after 6:30am (PST) to frozen windows, neg 3 (F)degrees feels like -26!!!!😱😳🥶Won’t be walking any doggos this morning, that’s for sure, even if I *did* have time😵‍💫

Unplanned REST DAY——

Drove to/from Yakima to pick up cut/wrapped pastured lambs. While there, saw my 85 yo aunt & uncle, visited mom/stepdad’s gravesite, & went to Costco for egg nog and gingerbread muffins! Interstates were all bare and dry, but side roads were compact snow & ice😏

AM- awakened at midnight by Boo growling and struggling to get up. When I tried to help him, he growled more. I thought he’d had an altercation with Canoe over a bed, but as I was touching him it seemed it was just pain and fear. I had the light on, so I proceeded out of the bedroom, and he managed to independently get onto his feet to follow me down the stairs for his water, and then go outside. I gave him pain medicine when he came inside, and he hobbled back upstairs and nested on the floor rug on my side of the bed.

AM- awake way to early (4:30am, PST); I think all the snow and shoveling has me a tad agitated😏

It’s not currently snowing and my app says it won’t snow again until tonight. So, perhaps I can get the berm at the end of the driveway dug out so husb doesn’t have to drive over a mountain order to get in tomorrow. Every time they plow the street (*when* they plow the street), our driveway gets blocked by the resulting pile😓Currently, it is 23 (F)degrees feels like 17 outside and socked in with dense fog. I can barely see to the back of the yard.

Husb says he’s coming home via the southern route through the Gorge. Fingers crossed there won’t be freezing rain in there🤞🏼

AM- awakened at 1am by Canoe needing outside urgently. Our room smelled like acrid pee. We searched for 10 mins and finally located the source: one of them had peed in the smaller dog bed😱 Boo drinks a ton of water constantly, and his pee is super dilute and hard to detect. Canoe, however, does not drink nearly as much and his is always very yellow. This, combined with his urgent need to get outside led us to think it was his accident. He was also super clingy and needing reassurance😵‍💫So, getting that solved, threw the bed cover in the washing machine, lit several candles to dissipate the smell, I went back to bed, and took an hour to get back to sleep. Husb never did, so he got up, and will sleep all day instead.😓
It’s snowing currently, anyway, so no need to BE up, in his mind🥴It is 30 (F)degrees feels like 25❄️☃️

AM- awake at midnight by both dawgs to go outside😵‍💫Canoe had trouble settling back down, even up on the bed with us. And I couldn’t go back to sleep with him right up by my head. So, I had him get down and he took a dog bed in the living room with an “arm pillow” around it. I covered him with a blanket, and he slept there all night.
When I got up at 6am (PST), Boo wanted to get up, also. So glad he seems better today🥰He’s even played his herding game with us already!😎 It’s Spa Day for them, so, that’ll set him back, again, I’m afraid…

AM- awakened at 2am by Canoe pacing the floor. After both husb and I trying, he would not go outside, but wound up on one of the “arm collared” dog beds in the living room with a blanket😅
When I finally got back to sleep, I didn’t wake up again until he was oozing up into my bed at 6:30am (PST). Outside is cloudy, foggy and 19 (F)degrees😵‍💫🥶Boo got up with husb at 5am and has been sleeping….

AM- I think I slept all night🥳. However, on the way downstairs this morning, there was a large puddle of urine in the lower entryway, we think was Canoe’s, based on the circular formation🥴😵‍💫. I’m sure he tried to wake us up, but husb slept all night also, so…At least it was in an area of old tile, and where we would find it immediately, versus in a week, *not* on husb’s newly laid tile in the basement..small favors🙄

I have to drive 30 miles south this morning for an optometry appt in this wretched cold😖🥶✅😁

None of my usual mobility stuff got done due to time and company🫣

Doggos never got walked just cuz it was dangerously cold for old Boo. But, Canoe got to play outside with granddaughter for an hour🥶😎

Boo began having more trouble getting up. His back end has had increasingly more trouble moving in the last week. Then after going outside, for last call, he was unable to move his right front leg at all, and his resp rate was sky high. He could not lay down and keep breathing. Nor could he tolerate us helping him to move. We set up sleeping pads and bags on the living room floor, and started giving him some pain meds and anti anxiety meds to get him calmed down. Eventually, he moved onto my sleeping pad/pillow. So, husb slept next to him, on the floor. I went upstairs to our bed.

Once in the night, Boo tried to make it to his water, turned around and came back to a diff position next to husb on the floor. As I pet him now, his breathing is slow and he doesn’t focus very well or very long. Then he got to his feet, hobbled outside, very rickety with only 1 good and functioning limb, and back inside to drink water. We medicated him some more thinking we could keep him comfy and wait til he can’t make it outside. Then he threw up all the meds😩So, I have our vet coming out after office hours to euthanize him. If he can’t herd us, and can’t enjoy and keep down food….

I am so sorry you have to go through this; there's never a good time for these things but this time of year is already extra difficult for a lot of people.

Praying for you and Boo and know that your care for him is surely appreciated. Wish I could help in some way.

AM- woke up at 7am (PST) to 13 (F)degrees feels like 9❄️🥶. Feeling really thankful today that we were all here for Boo. The last couple years, husb and I had been fretting that one of us would be out of town, and that Boo would have a problem and die without having us both here. So, we have been tag-teaming the out of town times, one of us always staying home. As it worked out, even my daughter and granddaughter were here. They were also both here when our other dog, Penny died in 2017. However, my stepson was not, which was not my preference…oh well, can’t have everything. But, we did get to have Boo go out in a dignified way, befitting his personality, and with our comfort and love of him. 🥰
