12/28/2025 Log
Today went from good, to rough, to good again.
We got to sleep in a little this morning, which was nice. We both really needed that. Then slowly got up, made up a pot pie Dad's gal pal gifted us to have with lunch, made up a half-pot of coffee, and relaxed for a little. It was nice to finally sit back and just catch up on some of the threads on here. Of course most of the trip we want to spend balancing, but we've learned over the years the importance of balancing fun with recovery time on trips. Plus, we weren't really able to hang out until after lunch anyways.
After lunch, we went to a fort that my sister was recommending. Though in an amusing turn of events, we ended up going to a different one instead. She had gotten forts mixed up and we went to a closer one instead. It was a lot of fun, though, as none of us had visited this one before. We watched the little video, went through their little museum, and walked around a bit. I grabbed a junior ranger book, knowing I wouldn't complete it in time, but felt like it'd be fun and a nice souvenir. (For US folks, I recommend. They are designed for kids, but there's no age limit. Basically every state park has one and when you complete it, you get a lil' badge. Many times it's a cute lil' wooden badge.) It was nice walking around. Though we did get rather worn out. My sister was in her more chaotic energy state (we found out later she was "go-go-go" earlier that day and hadn't shifted from it yet). And my nephew is, well, still learning how to socialize and is a bit behind on that unfortunately. He hasn't quite learned how to have a conversation but instead often ends up talking
at people instead of with. And with his young ADHD self, well, he can go on and on with rapid and drastic conversation changes. And unfortunately he clung to the poor introverted mate pretty hard.
So by the time we left, I was a little frazzled and the mate was a bit low on spoons bouncing between the different energy types. -_-
We were planning to go to the other fort, but decided to head back. And was happy we took separate cars so we had 30 minutes to recharge a little. We went to my sister's new place where she showed us around. It was a nice lil' place and felt like a good size for them. Loved their open kitchen. The nephew ended up giving me a case of his Starbucks coffee (my dad apparently stocked up on the pumpkin spice since he really liked it) which was sweet of him. (And for the curious, coffee doesn't necessarily compound the ADHD energy. Sometimes it slows it down. Very interesting stuff.)
My sister's husband and their son ended up staying while we took my sister to the little shops in town. She wanted to pick up gifts for my crew to give them for Christmas and wanted our input. We got 2 of the 4 down. Unfortunately, the other place we wanted to go was closed. D: So walked around a little before taking her out to dinner at Waffle House. (And no worries, we got food for the others too). That was a nice visit. My sister was a bit more chilled and it was easier dealing with the smaller numbers.
After that, we hung out at the house we're crashing in and relaxed for a bit. I took a nice lil' nap then goofed around on my phone and/or computer. I did manage a little bit of crocheting in. Not a ton, but my fox kit has a body now.

The mate also took care of laundry since we had access.
One more full day and then a half day before we head back. Hoping to do a bit more shopping tomorrow and maybe go to my old house to see if there's anything else of my mother's I'd like. There's not really much, but it'll be good for us all for me to look ... I think. We'll find out. But off to bed now. Nighty night bees~
And
@f1shie 's cooper will be happy to know I drank a little over 20oz of water today. Which ... admittedly isn't a ton, but more than I had the last few days. ^_^
